I was not sure what category to place this thread under, but hopefully this is OK. Recently fell foul of a No Parking traffic sign. Went into a shop for a few minutes and on return the traffic enforcement guy had done my ticket and was working on the vehicle behind mine. Had parked about 20 mtrs from the restriction sign, which itself was about 10 mtrs in from a junction. The sign had no explanation of what distance from it the restriction is valid for, so I asked the enforcer. He was very vague and when pressed a few times, pointed to a pile of rubbish about 30 mtrs further up the road. I asked him several times what the actual distance of the restriction was, but he could not tell me and eventually waved me away. I paid the 200 pesos fine next day, which is no great shakes, but I still do not know what the parking restriction is at that sign. Driving around Dumaguete, there are lots of these signs placed at seemingly random locations. Some do have an explanation on, like 'From sign to junction', but many have nothing. Does anyone know what the generic rules are for these signs, as a search has found no detailed info. Thanks.
I dont have an answer but another question to add. Does this impact or count as a driving biooation? Anything to concider with your next drivers licence renual, now that they offer 10 year options with no violations?
Not sure if Parking is a license Violation as it is paid to the City not the Police. Stand to be corrected of course
I had same problem. I was parked outside the computer shop downtown and whilst I took my computer inside the shop, miss whiplash put a ticket on my car, I ran out and said where are the "no parking signs" her reply, there are no parking signs here. Me, how is one to know where to park, her. shrugs her shoulders and asked for my licence. 200 pesos lighter.
True, but this is not a "normal" place. If this was anyplace the otherside of the international date line I don't think it would be a question.
The actual traffic law says that even if it is posted "No Parking" you are allowed to temporarily stop for the purpose of picking up or dropping off a passenger or goods from a business. You are supposed to put on your blinkers and are allowed up to 15 minutes. Twice I've received tickets for that and I went into the office and explained that I wasn't "parked" I was just "temporarily stopped" to make a pick up, I brought a printout of the regulation with me to show them, and they voided the ticket.
