How to Adjust Alert and Email Settings

I've been told that some users are having problems with getting too many alerts and emails. There is also a possibility that the forum is sending out emails in blocks and/or delayed. I'll try to address these issues in this post.

Alerts:

If you are getting alerts that you don't care to be alerted about go the the link above and remove the check mark(s) from the offending alerts. The options should be pretty straight forward but if you have a question just ask. Don't forget to click "Save Changes" at the bottom when you are finished.

Emails:

Unfortunately the email notification settings are not centralized like the alerts are.

If you don't want to receive emails from watched threads the options can be toggled here: https://www.dumagueteinfo.com/board/account/preferences
Remove the check mark from second box and you will no longer receive emails when someone replies to a thread you watch. Note: Depending on your settings you might automatically watch threads that you create and reply to. I think that box is checked by default. If you want to only watch threads that you have specifically select to watch (the option to watch a thread is above the first post of every thread to the right of the screen) then you will need to uncheck that first option at the link above. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom.

You can opt out of all site emails, except ones sent by me or ones sent to every member, here: https://www.dumagueteinfo.com/board/account/privacy (it's the third option down). Click "Save Changes" at the bottom.

Uncheck these options and you will not receive and email when someone sends you a private message. Click "Save Changes" at the bottom.

I believe that's it for the email options. Not really sure what other kinds of emails the forum would be sending. If you are getting something you don't want let me know and I'll try to figure it out.

Delayed/Large Group of emails:

As for emails coming in late or in batches, well, I'm not really sure. Email setups are complicated (to me) and I'm not really sure how the forum software handles sending those. All I know is that the automated emails sent by the forum are not going through the email server that I set up because of some issues that I won't pretend to understand. I tried to get it to work with the email server but it just refuses to do it no matter what I do. Those emails are sent from the web server's or the forum software's local email client (I really have no idea how it sends it.....my guess is "magic" ). Either way, it's not very reliable and I have no earthly clue how to fix that.

Make sure you have the boxes checked at the link above.

If it still isn't working that is likely a server related issue. That is not something I can fix. You would need to contact whoever is in charge of the servers at PhilX (or whoever owns the site these days). Best of luck with that.
