Missus suggested we eat out today and I thought why not, be nice to get out of the house for a break. So we went to our preferred resto on the boulevard. My wife chose her favorite mixed seafood dish in cheese sauce that she opts for every time at a price just south of 500 pesos. The dish always consisted of a large slab of fish, large prawn, clams and fishballs in the said sauce.

She was a tad disappointed to discover that the fish no longer forms part of the dish, according to the lass who waited on us. As it was her that would probably suffer the repercussions of any complaint my wife did not take the matter further. But as we now were billed the same figure for one prawn, two clams and a plate full of sauce I doubt we'll be going back again!!!

Yeah, we go to the same place.. me for eggs benedict and her for the seafood dish. Needless to say she does not order it anymore for the same reason....

What is the average cost to eat out? We are coming to Duma soon.

Currently we are in Thailand up north and its cheaper to eat out than cook. Around 75p each or 380p at a flash place per meal. Beer big bottle is 100p and a smoothie 40p

Recently had a similar experience with the Hungarian Goulash at ynot. Same price, amount of meat halved. I’ve been eating that many times before, I surely felt betrayed by the new portion size.

It wasn't much better in Cebu. Ordered sashimi, salmon sushi and miso soup at a highly rated Japanese restaurant. I got 4 small slices of salmon (maybe 50 grams) for P350, the gf got two pieces of sushi for P300 and two tiny bowls of soup for P200 each. Couldn't have ordered more of I wanted to as the server completely abandoned us after dropping the food off at the table. Had to get up twice to find someone to get the bill.

Almost every restaurant we ate at there was severely lacking in the quantity and quality and extremely overpriced. Fast food was the only places in Cebu that serve a reasonable quantity of food for under P500 per person.

Although not related to eating out* (a wee bit off topic!), I noticed recently the taller Pringles containers and at a lower price. But then I check the contents' weight and it is more expensive than before. So reduced content (the sly way and one not reflected in inflation figures unless those figures are based on product sizes) and/or higher prices is the new normal - we will be paying for losses made in the pandemic (and now increasing costs of materials world-wide due to the Ukraine crisis and other supply issues) for many years to come. And I suspect that, unlike a lead balloon, whatever goes up is probably not going to come back down.

    * Unless you eat out at these new-fangled Pringles resto bars.

It would be difficult to give averages on prices to eat out here, beer for a 330ml bottle in Valencia is around P55 but in DGTE it is around P75, there is a few BBQ stalls in the park at Valencia Plaza which are very cheap and cheerful you can take your family there and feed them all for around p500, the food is not all that great but edible, where the locals eat will always be cheap, but go to a place that sells western food and they are about as expensive as eating back in your home country. take your family of 4 down to DGTE and expect to pay around P500 per head with drinks. As has been mentioned already prices are rising here and I have not eaten out for a while so just maybe my information is not all that accurate, but to live here with a family I would say it is impossible to eat out every day unless you eat with the locals? BTW what the locals eat is usually highly salted or often very sweet, for me most of it is only good for Pig Swill.

I cannot eat the local stuff , I have been to the stalls at Valencia park it was ok but not something I would eat often.

I also don't eat a lot of western food, except breakfast. Living in Pi we would cook a lot more.

Just spent 5 days in Siquijor at a nice resort (White Villa's, recommended), so we ate out every day we were there.
Spent around 35k on the resort (3 rooms, 6 adults) and a similar amount for all the meals, breakfast (at the resort), lunch/dinner at 3 different places. Works out at around 7.5k for breakfast (or 250 p.p) and 27.5k for the other meals (or 450 p.p) including drinks and the occasional dessert.
