I just saw the news about 2 young guys only 22 and 15 years old killed in a motorbike accident caused by a dog running into the road. It did not say if they were brothers or not but if they were imagine how the parents must feel, 2 sons gone in a senseless accident that should never have happened. The situation with the dogs has went on too long, if you don't have a fence to keep a dog inside or you can't afford a rope or be bothered to tie it up then simple you don't have a dog. I am a dog lover but if people are going to have a total disregard for the danger their dogs are causing then these dogs should be put down.
Another Law gone to pot, Each barangay was Ordered to provide a Dog round up team But................................
Article from Nov. 2022. Dwells into the stray Dog problem! https://www.philstar.com/headlines/...nds-there-more-animal-welfare-rounding-strays Than the stray & (domestic Cats) young un-leased Goats, Chickens, Roosters also play a part in road hazard. Traffic is a calamity in all 3rd Worlds, drive accordingly knowing that. particularly while on a Scooter.
I am against tying up any animal and so a person should own a dog ONLY if they have a secure fence or will take the dog out on a lead. Often, problems caused by animals are due solely to the stupidity of the owners.
I agree with most of what you say here, but I do wonder if both boys were wearing helmets I think it very likely they were not and that they have parents that also do not wear them, so you are correct accidents caused by Dogs not under control are senseless but so is not wearing helmet when riding a bike, you will know this I expect? in and around Valencia the police do not care if you do not wear a helmet unless they are tasked to set up a checkpoint, many times you can see a Policeman who is off duty riding his bike and not using a helmet in that area and yet they are in a prime position to know many people that have been killed when they may have lived if wearing head protection. Plenty of Dumb Foreigners are also guilty of this in that self same area?
I agree with DAVE1952 that helmets could have likely prevented the deaths, its not often you are doing much more than 40km/h here on a scooter and if you are wearing a helmet (with straps done up and not a skateboarding helmet) most crashes would not kill you. My minimum rule for motorbikes in South East Asia, helmet, gloves and closed shoes every time you ride. I admit to wearing shorts, t-shirt and driving aggressively as I just cannot stand motorbikes being ridden at bicycle speeds in the middle of the lane.
Where did this happen? Wearing of helmets obviously a good start. Bike and road sense another, including indicating etc. General common sense unfortunately is lacking with the attitude of it'll never happen to me. "It's all nothing till it's something" as the saying goes and then it can be too late. Here's a similar example, walking, now common sense says to me (especially as no pavements), walk on the side with the traffic coming towards you for IMO pretty obvious reasons. But the Filipino mindset just doesn't comprehend that kind of logic or it's just not taught.
My thought exactly, yet the neighbors asked my wife why I walk on the wrong side of the road. So I can get outof the way, or at least see what hits me.
