Did they say which viral infection caused the damage?

It was a type of Herpes like Shingles, apparently it can return under too much bright sunlight, or a weak immune system, due to any number of reasons including stress!
It has scarred the Cornia, reduced the vision in my left eye, any further attacks, I could lose my vision in that eye completely.
Obviously, my fear now is, if it crosses to my right eye, so any signs of discomfort I immediately contact the clinic, for antibiotics to stave off further damage.
A Cornia graft is the next stage, but once again that too could be affected by the virus returning, hence their reluctance to operate at this stage.
I count my blessings I got this far, that's why we should never take life for granted.......there ends the story, JB

I wondered if it was herpes (Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)) - that little bugger hides in nerve endings (latent) and then emerges during stressful events (as you say) - and "stress" is not just a psychological thing. This why cold sores develop many years after the original infection (which, from memory, I think has to be before age 5) and the same for shingles (but that is from Varicella-Zoster (chickenpox) and not HSV).

I assume the antibiotics are to stop secondary bacterial infection because they will not stop the herpes.

Your doctor may have informed you of this, but I note (https://www.healthline.com/health/eye-herpes#treatment) there are two forms of herpes infection of the eye and both can be treated with antivirals:

    Epithelial keratitis treatment
HSV in the surface layer of the cornea usually subsides on its own within a few weeks.

If you promptly take antiviral medication, it can help minimize cornea damage and vision loss. Your doctor will recommend antiviral eye drops or ointment or oral antiviral drugs.

A common treatment is the oral medication acyclovir (Zovirax). Acyclovir may be a good treatment option because it doesn’t come with some of the potential side effects of the eye drops, such as watery eyes or itching.

Your doctor may also gently brush the surface of your cornea with a cotton swab after applying numbing drops to remove diseased cells. This procedure is known as debridement.

    Stromal keratitis treatment
This type of HSV attacks the deeper middle layers of the cornea, called the stroma. Stromal keratitis is more likely to result in corneal scarring and loss of vision.

In addition to antiviral therapy, taking steroid (anti-inflammatory) eye drops helps reduce swelling in the stroma.

Came back that way, but longer I believe. So you know you can still see with the detached retina eye, it's just there's a shadow type curtain over part of it which you can see through. It's quite recognisable should you get one. There are no visable appearances showing on the outside.

No Foreigner can use or avail the Senior Citizen dis-count card ANYWHERE!!!! You can use it only to Que in a line up. The Penalty of a Foreigner using the card for any dis-count is a 10.000 Peso fine and deportation without hearing. If you have used the card for a discount,,,,,,, your arse may be Grass when they come a knocking! It was submitted a couple years back in the Congress to give Foreigners the rights of the card.........IT WAS NOT APPROVED! Do not question this post ...it is a final and last warning. This has been discussed numerous times. Cheers and take that card and stuff it, not good for anything if your a Foreigner.
