The other day i was looking in hardware shops for a portable plug in RCD. For anybody who does not know this is what it is, A residual-current device (RCD), residual-current circuit breaker (RCCB) or ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) is an electrical safety device that quickly breaks an electrical circuit with leakage current to ground. It is to protect equipment and to reduce the risk of serious harm from an ongoing electric shock. It turned into the quest for fire, i went to Uymatiao, Handyman,Polaris, Citi hardware and Triumph, the closest thing to be had needed to be incorporated into the electric panel or to change the outlet socket. I can't believe these things are not more popular here considering the dodgy standard of most electrical work, most houses don't even have an earth wire. I have since ordered one from Lazada so we will see how that goes.
Received the RCD from Lazada today, tried the re set and test function and it seems to be working as it should. Just over 1000php including delivery.
This could be a very useful device for protecting refrigerators and pumps from voltage fluctuations and low voltage. Electric motors can overheat and burnout if operating at low voltage for an extended period of time. This would be the perfect thing to prevent that.
Those are useful and readily available around town. But they are not RCDs or GFCIs which have a very different function.
