What is or would be your favorite city to visit or live. Having lived in all between 1998 -2006, my favorite was Hong Kong, far and away. I imagine my opinion would be much different today. Note: I didn't have to pay monthly rent. Still, Tokyo and Singapore were to expensive.
I have never been to Tokyo or Sydney, i have had a few overnight stops in Hong Kong but i did live for a long time in Singapore and up until now it is the best place i ever lived and would go back there in a minute IF i once again worked for a company that paid everything. Living there off my own dollar would be out of the question
Sydney is a very nice city. Tokyo is terrible. I was there a few times for business. 37 mio. people living there. Getting around in the city is difficult and finding a quiet place to relax is not easy. But ok, if you like a crazy night life you might like Tokyo. Gesendet von meinem M2101K6G mit Tapatalk
I didn't live in many bigger cities (mostly in provincial towns in the Netherlands). Only city I lived at during and for some time after studies was Amsterdam, back in the 70's. I visited plenty others though. If I'd make a list of those in order of attractiveness to live (which is not the same as attractiveness to visit) my top 10 would look something like this: 1. Auckland 2. Amsterdam 3. Lisbon 4. Sydney 5. Dusseldorf 6. Prague 7. San Francisco 8. Edinburgh 9. Nice 10. Helsinki However, much of the list is from my impressions when visiting, which for a large part was long ago (most of them from the mid 70's to the late 90's). At present many would rate lower for one reason or another, and thus my current home town (if it would qualify as a city) would score higher than most of these.
My choice in Asia would be Singapore due to its safety, cleanness and almost perfectly infrastructure. In Europe Munich would be my first pick. There are many other places where you have a nice life and certain life style. Unfortunately all these places come with a price. Singapore, Munich and a few others are no cheap places at all. Nevertheless I feel unable to decide "this is the best city in the world". Due to extensive travelling during all my live I am privileged to know many nice places, but I know them from a tourist point of view. And I don't know the entire place, just a few quarters of each of them. Despite the fact that I was living in some nice cities for a couple of years. At the end of the day you have to decide what kind of life style you want to have. It depends on many things. Ig you have children, education is a point. Just to say. By the way, Tirana, Albania, is a lovely city with wonderful people. It's a mixture of Italian and Greece life style, wheater is nice, it's very much affordable and you really can have a nice life. Was wotking in Albania for a couple of years and don't want to miss this experience. And, last but not least, Dunaguete, The Philippines, is quiet a good spot. Provided you can handle some deficits and lack of infrastructure and education. But it's not bad.
I've never been a great fan of cities but I guess they're a necessary evil. So here's my list of memorable cities and the reason why, in no particular order Tromso - great people - Aurora Borealis Bergen - great people who know how to party, no matter the weather Shanghai - Non-stop buzzing (Even thru SARS) Singapore - clean & organised Nice - great gateway to the Med Nimes - beautiful city and the FFL are great hosts Brisbane - IMO the cultural capital of Australia Dublin - Guinness!!! and ladies that know how to drink Pheonix - Nearly as hot as hell so I might as well acclimatise
