Mine don't have AC and it's NOT insulated. I already explained that to you on another forum and on here. Its a well ventilated house and the third floor acts like a buffer between the roof and floor , no walls apart from the firewall all open for the wind to blow through, and all my windows and doors are left open with bars and mosquito screens. built 14 years ago must have saved a fortune on electric. Its all about design. 450 sm over three floors and very little problems.

I'm willing to spend a little money to be comfortable and drinking never really made me comfortable. I guess I could drink myself to sleep each night, but that might result in some bad mornings. Seriously, it would probably cost a lot more to build a house from scratch designed to be energy efficient than to put an AC unit into the existing house, but one never knows what the future holds.

When our house was built 2+ years ago, we had 4 aircons installed. Mistake, I doubt we use them for more than 60 hours a year collectively, Ceiling fans were also and that is what we use. Some days and nights the house are uncomfortable but bearable. Keeps the Noreco bill lower. We are about a kilometer from the sea, slight incline.

I've thought about ceiling fans and using a big attic fan to draw the colder air in at night and push the hot air out of the attic. It worked pretty good at my Dad's place in NC. The downside is you have to have the windows all open, so things could get noisy.

I have my windows open 24/7 got use to the noise, my ceiling fan drowns most of the noise anyway, sounds like a chopper taking off.

We just put split in our inverter over Thanksgiving when we were there. We will put a large 3 ton in the living room/kitchen when we come back in a year or two. It is great and when it is really hot there everyone goes into our bedroom and enjoys the cool air. They don't use it much because of the cost but especially with my wife's sister having a new born, it is really nice.

That being said, I don't know if they even sell heat pumps. If you lived up in the higher elevations maybe you would use one occasionally in the mornings but I am not sure there is even a need for it. Bundle up until the sun comes out and it is fine.
