Portable generator

Due to the excessive number and duration of brownouts on Siquijor, I need to install a back up generator. What stores in Dumaguete sell generators? I would like to contact them before making a decision as to the make, model and kws. Greenfield has been suggested as a good model, so that is on my list, also Honda. I will need a generator of 3000 to 3500 w, quiet, reliable and efficient. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Thanks ahead.

 

Unless you are going to supply power to the whole island you won't need 3000kw, 3 or 4kw should be enough for a house.

Uymatiao Trading are the local supplier and service agent for Promate generators, listed on the Promate website. I think its originally a US brand that is made in PH.
Our 10,000W (peak-surge) Average 8, 500W unit has been reliable, ran solid for Typhoon Odette in Dec 2021, 3.5 days powering 5 fridges 2 freezers and 2 2.5HP AC units in the shop.

The newer models (ES at the end of the model#) have an hour counter which would be handy for service intervals but nothing that cant be done in a notes app on a phone.

Add a little bit on your calculated requirements if your fridge or AC are non inverter types. Also an AVR with a long delay helps on fridge/freezers. Stops everything coming on full current when the generator has just started, also good for protection on the short power outages you get.

 

I'll second JWB's statement. We've had a 7.5kW Promate for 7 years, bought from Matiao's, and it's been fine, even if a little noisy (newer models are much quieter). It ran for one month continuously after Odette until we had power restored and we've only ever had to replace the AVR once.

 

Are Greenfield and Honda generators available in Dumaguete? I have done a search but nothing appears.

 

Du Ek Sam are the Honda motorcycle deal just north of the market. I saw a generator on their shelf last week.
Several years ago I considered getting some Honda Generators. At the time the Honda 2000i was a good model. It's a 2.0 KVA inverter type generator which can be paralleled with a second generator.
They were a bit pricey so I bought a ProMate.

 

Can you give me the cp number, web page or email of the Honda dealer? I want to check if they stock the Honda EU2200i generator? Thanks ahead

If I am not mistaken I saw Greenfield generators in ACE hardware, but the price was 10k more than ordering online (Lazada).
