As much as I know, the "Tanigue" is the "Spanish Mackerel" and an other fish I love to eat is the "Rabbit Fish", I will try to find out it's Filipino name...

Simple mind, thanks, always looking to try new kinds of fish. I will try get a taste of Rabbit Fish. Just found this list, says it's known in the Philippines as "Danggit". Asawa's at work right now, will have to ask her if she's familiar with.

Philippine Fish Species - List of Common Fish in the Philippines ~ Philippine Food

BTW, asawa, who's the real expert on fish identification and cooking in our family, says that she DID once buy what she thought was Tanigue in a large Chinese grocery here in the Eastern US, sold under the name of "Kingfish". Not sure if really was the same fish, and she wasn't too happy with the taste, which may have just been an issue of freshness. Going to have to take her on a field trip to a REAL fish market in NY or Philadelphia for some more investigation.

Posting this picture strictly for fish identification pictures  This is supposed to be a Kingfish, similar but not identical to Spanish Mackeral. Might be a good alternative for us if we can get it fresh.

Thanks for the link, very good information not only regarding fish, but remember that the BIG fish have a lot of heavy metals and mercury content and that the "lowly" Sardine is one of the best fish for you to eat...

I know another one but it's not on the list, I know it as "Kanoping" in Tagalog...

Tanigue here looks like Wahoo that are caught in Mexico.

They look similar to Spanish Mackeral but are not the same fish. Wahoo get much bigger and are a lot more fun to catch too.

You say the big Mamsa get caught on the backside of Apo Island. I try to find out about rules how close to Apo is it allowed to fish with rod and reel, talk to many people, coastguard, fishermen but no one can tell me the rules. I stop fishing far from Apo when I go there in my small Banca don't want any problem with the local fishermen about fishing, best with friends
