Good news. I got flagged down by the police I talked to at the police station while walking by them in front of Robinsons. They said they ended up figuring out where the guy lived and they dropped him off at his apartment.

    .

At that time in the morning, I was more concerned about the guy getting robbed and only the police station was open. He had a watch and a wallet with cards and money. I asked him to open his wallet and look through his cards to look for an ID or a receipt that might have shown where he was staying.

At his age, I'm guessing he would have had access to some sort of pension. Whatever, I would rather the cops lock him up than taking the chance on leaving the guy to get beat up on the street.

I'm assuming he was lost and confused because he didn't protest at all. I actually left him for about 30 minutes because I was going to meet a friend for a beer on my way home. I told him to get himself together and if he was still there when I got back then I would take him to the police station. On my way back, he had moved to a different corner and flagged me down.

I also offered food and a little money, he refused both. He just seemed to be okay with me helping him.

I not sure about that nowadays dave,,, he maybe better off there with family members looking after him,,, after all it is going to kill him eventually and why die in this fridge!

i had a good friend got this and i dont want to visit him in the old peoples home, if it were me i would rather be spending my last days with the sun on my face and people who love me around, (hopefully this guy has that) even if no one around ,, in either country its a lonely place to be anyway.........

hope the guy can manage to get on with as much life as he can

Dementia/Alzheimers is a horrible thing to have at the end of your life. It is a heavy burden on the family (my grandfather on my father's side had Alzheimers and my grandmother from my mom's side is going through the same thing now). Maybe it would be best to leave his picture, family's contact number and address with the police/immigration so they know who to call if he gets brought in again. I think knowing that there is a 70 year old, tall and thin German man with limited English suffering from dementia/Alzheimers is enough for people to recognize him and take him to the police. I think most of us would be willing to stop and help an elderly man who was walking the street (or sleeping on the street) looking confused and know to take him to the police station/immigration. Just not sure putting his picture up would make the family feel any better and it could make him a target for people who might not have his best interests in mind, if you know what I mean.

It's not an issue with drinking. He is probably 70+ and appears sober. He is dressed well, has money and cards (no ID that I could see) on him and otherwise appears to be a normal tourist.

Maybe he got away from family at his home, but I was also thinking about a possibility of a stroke or other issue.

Anyways, I can't stay awake any longer and I have my own family to attend to. I'm going to leave him to the police.

My number is 09154720821. I brought him to the police station because I didn't know what else to do. I feel like I have done everything I can, so I may not be here much longer. My phone is also nearly out of battery. I may not be able to text back. Just hoping someone catches on with this quickly.

In a perfect world I would agree but if Germany is anything like so many western nations that I am familiar with elderly care is sorely lacking. Many relatives would rather have an elderly relative out of sight and out of mind in some facility being taken care of by strangers than be bothered doing it themselves. Here in PI if he married a decent local he will be looked after and taken care of by relatives much better than in many western nations. At least here the elderly are revered unlike many other places. Most of Asia is the same. My two cents worth... That and P50 will buy you a cup of coffee too... Maybe!

Sorry, I don't speak any German. (Curious how the guy could be even remotely functional in the Philippines without speaking any English. Perhaps he had a bit too much of the jungle juice tonight?) You did what you could by taking him to the police station, let him sober up there for the night and if you're still concerned tomorrow go back to see if the guy's English vocabulary has improved any.
