BI to aliens: Claim your i-cards HE Bureau of Immigration yesterday directed more than 3,000 foreigners to claim their alien identity cards that are nearly gathering dust at the BI office. Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. appealed to the foreigners concerned to claim their alien certificate of registration identity card (ACR I-Card) now so they will not encounter problems on their immigration status. David stressed that the I-Card is an “important and indispensable” document that every foreigner, who holds a non-immigrant or immigrant visa in the Philippines, must secure. He said that a foreigner, who holds a non-immigrant or immigrant visa, should present the I-Card to immigration officers at a Philippine port of entry every time he or she enters or exits the country. The BI chief warned that the visa of a foreigner will be downgraded to tourist who arrives or depart without the I-Card. “This card is proof of a foreigner’s legal residence status. Without it, a foreigner is deemed improperly documented and may be sanctioned for violating our immigration and alien registration laws,” he added. BI Executive Director Eric Dimaculangan said many of the unclaimed I-Cards have been in his office for many months. “I cannot understand why the owners of these I-Cards do not bother to claim them. Perhaps, they do not know how very important these cards are,” he lamented. Dimaculangan also advised foreigners who applied for I-Card issuance to check with the BI website at The Bureau of Immigration, Philippines Official Website - MAIN if their cards are ready for release. His office handles the release of the I-Cards after these are processed by the BI alien registration division. Under the rules, foreigners whose petition for an immigrant or non-immigrant visa was approved by the BI, must apply for their I-Card to perfect their residence status. I would imagine all those cards that are sitting around gathering dust belong to tourists who came here and had to apply and left the country..Just some more proof of a total waste of time and money,, all the tourists being forced to get the cards helps to make things take so long for permanent residents.
I haven't been to Canada,US or Europe for 3 or 4 years, i wonder what the visa fee is there if you want to stay a couple of months..

got almost the same problem, when y renewed my I-card ,Manila said they did not have the last 3 years reports from Dumaguete, i had to send them the ORIGINAL of the last 3 reciepts, i did, i finally got my I-card but they kept the 3 reciepts, they did not retruned them, do i have to expect they will ask again next year??i guess yes !
Personally, I wouldn't give either the national or local government here, the 'steam off my ****', let alone originals of anything I've paid for. Must be a new developing 'fleece the foreigner' scheme, like smoking in public, not wearing a helmet/proper riding attire either on a bike or a 4 wheeler, not having wing mirrors, etc, etc, etc, when locals do whatever they like and aren't even stopped, got to love it, more fun in the Philippines.
