I used to love the Breyers Vanilla Bean Vanilla - before they changed things including joining may other food companies making the packages smaller but keeping the price the same (because us consumers are too stupid to notice).
Oh, we notice, just nothing we can do about it. I'm with you though, those good ole days when a half gallon was really a half gallon.
Oh, I do miss Ben and Jerry...my favorites to have a threesome with! For an ultra-high volume operation, they really do have some seriously great ice cream for sale. Even a half gallon is a bit misleading. Ice cream is sold by liquid measure, but the manufacturers can beat in so much air that they can fill that half gallon with much less ingredient than someone selling a "premium" grade half gallon. Back home I would see bargain "pints" for 99 cents (50 pesos) next to Ben & Jerry's same physical size "pint" for $4 (200 pesos.) The difference in weight is so pronounced it is nothing short of astounding that they can get away with it.
Any U.S. Folks remember the Farrell's Old Fashion Ice Cream Parlors we used to take our kids to in the 70's?
