Plan to Track All Foreigners - Not Just Tourists - By SIM Cards Moves Forward Wonder how long it'll take for the Philippines to jump on the same bandwagon?
Spain did this years ago and caught 000's. Now everyone including the Spaniards have to Register their Sim. New Sim? No documentation no new sim. Crime,(all sorts, was reduced dramatically) although cell phone thefts did rise for a while, Seems logical to me! only those with a need to worry need to be concerned
Hmmmmm agree in most part but seems they can find you if they want to sell you something, Smart ring me on a Number discontinued some time ago on an old Phone, as they say "Where there is a will"
The Philippines can not even afford "signal jammers" for the one big jail, so how are they going to afford all the sophisticated hardware and software to track phones through out the country? However it would be a great contract for some "family member of politician" to "win" to supply all the stuff. (an alternative would be if we all carried around helium balloon with the imprints of our flag and names on 30 ft strings, but that could cause problems with the overhead wire systems while we are waiting for the more sophisticated systems to be put in place. )

Afghanistan was able to get their sh*t together long enough to actually enforce all people to register when purchasing a prepaid SIM. The 3 major cell providers would report any reseller that didn't comply to the military/police....and you don't want those guys to have to get off their asses because they aren't going away until their hands have been properly greased for making them do something.....or until you're dead. Spoiler: Off-topic Those ANA/ANP guys were operating at corruption level legendary....making Filipino politicians look like complete novices. I once had an ANA Major try to tell me I had to pay him $5 because the group of ANP guys I was doing repairs for at the gate had not been informed they needed to pay him for his permission to get their systems repaired and they didn't have any money on them (not sure why I got stuck with the bill). Told the Major I forgot my wallet at the office but promised the guy I'd be back with the $5 plus a little something extra for making him wait.....that "something extra" ended up being one insanely pissed off ANA 2 star general and 10 Mongolian soldiers in full battle rattle. Major Mohammed (would his name be anything else? ) got his @ss severely beat down by that old crusty general (feel sorry for any Russians that ran across that guy back in the 80s).....oh, and I kept my $5! lol
The cell phone towers and the radios in your phone are the sophisticated hardware....all SIM cards already have an account (the software) attached to them (how else would they know you ran out of load). They only need to be in range of one tower for them to know what city you are in, two towers for them to know what barangay/purok and three towers for them to know which door to knock on.
Some local would give me a sim and I would just use top up cards if I were worried about it. Use two phones and leave one at home.
The people selling SIM cards will write your name and number on some paper form. They'll hand the mess off at some office with one worker sleeping and another worker texting. Just drop it off in the overflowing pile. Need to actually track something? Texting Filipina looks at the mess: "For a while sir."
I'll just wipe my @ss with toilet paper and sign it. As long as the stain vaguely resembles me, then it should be fine for valid ID. If it works for Christians identifying the Virgin Mary then it should work for me. Just find an underpaid worker who might be easily confused. That shouldn't be difficult.
