I wouldn't immediately jump on the bandwagon and publicly convict a foreigner based on what is printed in the news paper. I think most of us know when a foreigner is arrested the press comes running and only interviews the alleged victim. If a foreigner proves themselves innocent nothing will be printed.

That being said, if he is guilty something should be done so he doesn't make the good foreigners also look guilty just for being white and here.

Agree, but for some reason I believe the story to be mostly true. Nothing to back that up, just a gut feeling. I've seen the nasty foreigner mentality far too long and far too frequently. There is very little doubt in my mind that the physical altercation was started by the German. (And I have seen the same percentage of foreigners driving like complete nuts as I have Filipino...actually, probably a little higher percentage of foreigners drive like nuts compared to the locals. I don't automatically assume the accident was caused by the Filipino.)

I am not going to make a judgement on who is wrong in this situation. However if the alleged victim is a municipal Councillor do you think he will be biased against foreigners in his future decisions concerning foreigners? This foreigners actions may harm other foreigners coming with decisions to be made in front of this Councillor. Most Filipinos group all foreingers into one category, assuming that most white foreigners are Americans... Hey Joe. If foreigners feel any form of discrimination or harassment, we must realize that the Filipino's image of a foreigners is formed by each and every foreigner's actions, and attributed against every foreigner living in the area. Emotional control of our actions is necessary sometimes....

...and most foreigners group the majority of Filipinos into one category as well. It is just human nature, we are all guilty of believing in these stereotypes from time to time and in certain situations. I am certainly showing my prejudices against a certain type of foreigner in this thread, which has only been reinforced here (I mean, we did just have a someone here admit they would have beaten the sh*t out of a local if the local hadn't escaped after a near miss incident).

What decisions does a municipal counselor make that would concern a foreigner? (I really have no idea what a municipal counselor actually does that could possibly affect expats.)

Is the guy still a guest of the government or did he get bail? Just curious.

I think the media most likely won't go beyond the sensational headline of a foreigner being behind bars, or if he gets shot while attempting escape. I could go and talk to the alleged victim or his sister if I wanted to get involved, but would only get the same side of the story.

I will be sure to do that next time you 'write' again. When will that be?

    My question:
    Your answer.
I see that you weren't speaking about a Filipino. My apologies for jumping to that conclusion.

Funny you should ask if I write for a Filipino newspaper:

I was about to ask you the exact same thing. :troll:

Just for calcification; you did say that you would, with 100% certainty, have beat the sh*t out of the guy that almost hit you (not actually causing an accident) and smiled about it if he had not driven away, correct?

Yes, I would beat the sh*t out of the guy, who nearly hit me in a crosswalk, and forget to stop for red light. He pull the window down, 2 guys in the truck, and laugh at me. I invite both on a fight, but the big guys drive away before I get them, it was in Denmark, not the Philippines. Here I'm used to it and expect that kind of driving. 2 times idiots hit me on bike, both time hospital, long recovery after broken shoulder, hips, wrist and much more. No, it was not my fault, ooohh I forget, it was my fault to be white, and payment to hospital was also a white mans bill, lol. Again I will not start a fight with a local, but punch back, yes I'm so stupid, I will defend my self. All this can sounds negativ, but I'm happy with life in Philippines, have filipino friends, I know the locals respect me, like I respect them. This means NOT, I agree in lack of justice in Philippines, for both foreigner and filipinos with out right connections
