I think brides from anywhere in the world can be a a pain in the @ss to deal with. Probably has more to do with them being women and less about the Spaniards though. But yes, every former Spanish colony that I know of is pretty dang corrupt......and do accept bribes. I believe, as well, that it had to do with the fact that they paid the locals working in the colonial government peanuts and left them to figure out how they were to pay their bills.
Sorry Jack, correction. Christopher Columbus was Italian, born in Genoa Italy. There is a big Italian celebration in the Italian community in New York City annually.
