What is the sudden interest of Trump in the Sovereignty of The Falkland Islands?
Answer must be OIL, just like that of Venezuela. The only difference being he would not dare to attempt a coup against the British Colony himself, so stir-up trouble with the Argentinians?
    History speaks for itself.

The Argentine claim to the Falklands predates any oil exploration, but the expected oil riches may well reinforce that claim.
The Trump position in the simmering conflict is much more about perceived weakness on the British side, as you would expect from a bully, and his sympathy for the government of Argentina's current president.
It's about time the Brits bury any remaining sentiments about the "special relationship" with the US.

Whether or not the continued colonial situation of the Falklands would justify another crazy expensive (and costly in humanitarian terms) military confrontation (if such would come about) is a different matter altogether.

Argentina is not Iran so I would bomb the hell out of them with long-range bombers - not a repeat of the Falklands War. And as long as they are aware of that, it's a deterrent. Trump's thoughts on the matter should be ignored - with luck he will soon be a lame duck or perhaps even as dead as a dodo.

Duck or dodo - who cares!

You may have missed it but the last long range bomber that the UK had was retired in 1984.
When it comes to long range conventional missiles, the UK has 65 Tomahawks that can be launched from submarines.
At 3.5 million a piece that's not particularly cheap though.

I may have missed it, but it certainly missed me!

If we don't have any, then build them.

When it comes to aggression to our 'property' - be it personal or national - then cost should never be an over-riding consideration. That shows weakness to an enemy.

HMS Queen Elizabeth or Prince of Wales plus a destroyer, a sub and an RFA trolling around the islands should deter the corned beef tin tossers. Hands to bathe anyone?

Even one sub - with appropriate munitions!
