That is rather subjective. I've never really had "bad" lechon in Dumaguete, you have to really not give a sh*t to screw it up...though I find Filipino lechón (actually a Spanish word and dish) a bit overrated. Many places/countries have roast suckling pig recipes and the ones I've tried I found to be a bit more flavorful and unique.

Why not give it a go yourself and experiment? Might be worth a shot.

    ¥29,800($267.17) for a five-kilo suckling pig. Add a $100 and I can buy a plane ticket. Actually, I haven't tried a suckling pig yet.

I am wondering what will happen when we build our sty's and begin matching the locals prices... I am sure I already know the answer to that one! lol

We always buy locally from the Lechon suppliers, haven't had a bad one yet but I try to buy a smaller Pig so as to try and avoid too much fat under the skin.

Whenever I saw a small lechon at a party, I thought (to myself) the pig was not fed properly or had not had not lived long enough to get fat.
By the time the crowd around the lechon dies down, there is usually nothing left but the carcass.

After reading that I don't fell so bad paying P700/kilo for lechon belly at Park(something) Mall in Cebu yesterday. It was delicious, but the price left a bad taste in my wallet.

Still reckon the best lechon here is in valencia plaza in the evenings. Spicy and non spicy. The line gets long quickly so get there early.
Served on paper plate with a plastic glove to eat,if you eat the spicy put the toilet roll in the freezer the night before

That may be the true in Japan and elsewhere, but in the Philippines: young lechon = skinny pig!
