Last February I picked up a cab to Makati. I wasn't that far from Makati, once I got in the guy asked for a set rate. He said take it or I'll drop you back where I picked me up. I didn't want to mess with it since it had already been a long day so said ok. When we got to the hotel, he even had the nerve to ask for a tip, for which I told him he had already received it. My wife and I used Grab from the hotel to the airport and hotel to hotel and it worked great. The concierge will call the Grab for you, so you don't even need the app. If you have a lot of luggage, it is definitely is the way to go. Unfortunately, I don't think you can catch Grab at the airport, but I could be wrong. I'm sure if you could catch one there there would be no issues. However, I don't think they have the placards like Uber and Lyft so figuring who is a Grab driver and who isn't might be a challenge. Very reasonable too.

True. I commented this already. GRAB is good. From the airport use a COUPON Taxi. This might be a bit more expensive as well. But only if there is no traffic. With a lot of traffic it is probably even cheaper that a meter taxi. Furthermore you can avoid all this hassles with the drivers trying to cheat you.

Added Note. Getting bilked out of 5 bucks twice a year really is no big deal no matter where anyone is living. Don't stress to much over it. To expect some massive change across the board where all follow the rules is unrealistic!

Only bad experience with Cab's has been in UK.

My memory of cab's in the UK does not concern cheating the fare but being surly and lazy.
In the days when you needed a key to open the boot (trunk for the kano's) the majority of drivers used to have the key tied with a string inside the boot and then in the keyhole.
This was to save them all the effort of getting out to open it for you if you had luggage

Personally, I would avoid the metered taxi if anything like I saw at Terminal 3 and Terminal 4. If you have 30-60 minutes to stand around have at it to save a couple of bucks. The lines look small, but at a new taxi every couple of minutes, keeps things slow.
