The UK and the Philippines (and all but one or two countries in Africa and the US) use the same standard frequencies. Us Americans like to do things our own way. Americans traveling abroad will need to have a "quad-band" phone (800,900,1800,1900MHz), whereas you can travel with your normal dual-band phones (900 and 1800MHz).

High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA)?
That is 3G protocol used in UMTS networks. (When you see an "H" in your signal bar that is what it is referring to. Also, when you see an "E" in the signal bar that is short for EDGE (Enhanced Data GSM Environment)....that means 2G sh*t speeds.)
FYI: (W)CDMA. That is GSM's US doppelganger.
And people say I use too many acronyms when I use Army talk.
