Greetings from Thailand.
I have joined this group in the Hope of gaining valuable Knowledge about living in Duma or its surrounding areas.
I note i am on probation and if i make no posts I will be labelled a Lurker and as I feel inadequate to quote on Local events i decided to say a little about myself. I am definitely an OAP, Brit/Aussie, ex reservist 12 years RAE and medic, life member Angeles RSl and Currently based in Rayong Provence Thailand
i have read some interesting reviews on this site some positive but not all, The Immigration situation in Thailand is changing for those of us on a pension and despite my pension being 5 times the average I/O salary they seem keen to kick us out unless we put 800,000 Baht in the Thai Bank $34,000 Au. it seems many expats are researching The Philippines and Vietnam in search of a new home in 2019 . In fact some have either gone home or moved out of Thailand. In the Interest of brevity I will close and trust the Moderators seem this post acceptable regards Brian

 

Welcome. Don't be so shy to ask questions but keep in mind the experience is in Dumaguete and the Philippines in general. I had hoped a number of years ago to move to Thailand myself but it just wasn't feasible due to the visa restrictions imposed and its getting even worse along with many other countries. It seems they don't really want us expats and just our money which our money going into the local economy isn't enough apparently. We are running out of places to go unless your rich and/or don't mind donating tens of thousands of USD to them even though supposedly its still yours but they hope we die first.

Lots of nice places to see in the Philippines and while Dumaguete is a bit boring (for me) no one can argue its a top notch safe place from severe weather in the country. Hurricane rolls in and everyone else panics but here in Dumaguete we just relax and make sure we have juice for our generators or lamps incase a brownout.

Anyways once again welcome and don't be shy to ask questions as we assume your here to learn more at least for now.
