    After casting about for something new in the Dumaguete dining scene I recently discovered Yakiniku Hakusan Japanese Beef BBQ. I've driven by it dozens of times without noticing it as it's on the second floor of a building fronting the south side of Quezon Park, very near the old stone watchtower. Owner is from Osaka and serves excellent yakiniku, along with decent sushi and possibly the best ramen I've found. Prices are reasonable and service is good but the food is the reason to go. Wish I had found it earlier.

    Tried to go here for lunch today (Tuesday) but it was closed. They are upstairs from a hairdresser when we went to ask them, (the hairdresser) was told restaurant opens at 2pm.

    The way I learned to use chopsticks was to put the sticks together, tie a rubberband around the top, and place a small piece of napkin near the top between the sticks. This acts as a hinge and keeps the sticks open. When you want a piece of food just squeeze the sticks like tweezers. Works like a charm. Eventually i just caught on how to use the sticks ordinarily. Now, take a rubberband with you and go enjoy some good Japanese chow.

    Hiragana, Katakana, Romanji and Kanji are the four main alphabets of the Japanese language. I studied it too, could read and write it years ago, out of practice now. Kanjo is the Chinese symbols, Romanji is the American alphabet, the other two are Japanese versions.

    I think katakana was the name of either the rooster or a song in the Moana movie (film for you Mr. Nmrn :wink:)

    Why do you think you have to use chopsticks to eat Japanese food. I lived in Japan for 17 years, yes I was adept at the sticks, but they also use the fork and spoon. Besides the sticks really aren't that hard to master.

    Their Raman was mediocre at best IMO. Very subjective I suppose but I have found much better ramen in Dumaguete.
