It was definately a legal marriage, but they were only together about a month before he legged it. Strange tale. I guess she'll have to be content with a legal separation.
In US any ordained minister can marry a couple....here you have to have a special license which a lot of ministers do not have as it costs money.
In the US you aren't officially married by any church. Once you have filled out, signed with a witness and submitted the marriage license to county clerk you are married. Is it not the same here? I thought the ceremony was just a pointless thing that happened for for religious preferences and made no difference to the civil side of the marriage. What would an atheist do in the Philippines if it's required a church be involved in the matter?
You can be married by any Mayor in the PI and many Judges also. Don't have to do it for flying spaghetti monster in sky!
The way it worked for me to get married in the Philippines was as follows. Once we went through the tedious and arduous preliminary requirements to get married, the Dumaguete mayor married us in a ceremony in his office. We then had to take the contract we and he signed to the Civil Registry Office at the City Hall and get the marriage registration done. Once that paperwork was done, we had to take the paperwork to the Dumaguete NSO for national registration and marriage license request. About a month after we were married we finally were able to pick up the official marriage license at the NSO. That process seemed easy compared to the preliminary paperwork and approvals. Takes a lot of patience for a foreigner.
Agree My first wife and I did the same but not here in Duma. Plus there was a seminar involved for a local marrying a foreigner but thankfully only one of us had to attend so I sent my ex-wife.
I had to attend that prelim requisite seminar with my to-be wife which was in Visayan. Almost as painful as the Noreco seminar to get your power turned on in your name.
