I think one of the previous threads has mentioned a group of criminals had landed on the island. Probably looking for them. Guess I should leave the big bike at home for awhile and not be a target......or I can ride it for quick getaways from criminals and checkpoints.

I just created a Facebook group for reporting of checkpoints in case anyone like to use. Post only checkpoint locations and times, and it could serve as a tool to plan your route to avoid them.

Lol I'm sure the criminals will appreciate that. I would almost think this to be illegal. (interfering with police activities?)

In all honesty, if you have a proper registration, locense and are wearing a helmet it only takes a couple minutes out of your trip. The police aren't likely to screw with you here. If you don't have all the requirements just keep an eye out for an unusual amount of filipino motorcycle riders without helmets waiting on the side of the road. You can assume there is a checkpoint ahead. Given the recent Intel of a criminal group landing here I would much rather spend that couple minutes than risk tipping off any criminals where a checkpoint was.

I remember having an app in the US that would allow you to post where police were hiding on the road using the radar and where checkpoints were and it came up on Google maps. I seem to recall it being a small time developer, you could probably find it and contact him to get the coding and adapt it for this country with a promise of shared profits.

I was told LTO can only do checkpoints on national hwys like Real St and Valencia road, not just any old road they choose.

An odd way to enforce anything I know - but the guy telling me generally knows what he's talking about

I think you might have been told wrong. Feel free to ask the LTO officer in charge of the checkpoint for the memorandum (or whatever they call it here) of approval for the checkpoint but I'm pretty sure they can have one anywhere within their jurisdiction so long as it is approved by he the proper authority. That's like those silly rumors back in the US where people tell you that state police can't chase you into another states jurisdiction. I had a friend who tested that theory out. The only thing he accomplished was to have Indiana AND Kentucky police chasing him.

One thing about checkpoints that is true is they MUST have a police car clearly visible within the barriers. I'm not sure if the lights must be turned on but in my experience hey always have been.

Maybe he's wrong, I thought my local newspaper column writing friend said he even as much as told people manning a non natl hwy check point once that they were in the wrong place haha

So are the Dgte check points looking for these revenge seeking criminals only stopping motorcycles - as they usually do?

Better to ride a tricycle if you're a criminal I guess

Phils.......I wouldn't even think a checkpoint possible in the US without a police car.
