True, no way they get from the station to the location of the check point any other way than in their car.

Well I got stopped yesterday afternoon just before where Locsin splits to head toward Batinguel. I went the other direction after I saw a bunch of riders parked and a checkpoint ahead. When I made a U turn there were two cops standing 50 feet in the opposite directioin who immediately signaled me to pull over.

Though my registration was not current (due this past July) they didn't say anything about it and sent me off.

Why they don't walk up and inspect all the riders parked only 50 mtrs away I don't know. I guess the best bet if your papers are in order is to just park it and not do a U turn.

I asked if they considered that the bad guys they are looking for might be riding something other than a motorcycle, and he said suspects typically ride in tandem on a motorcycle/scooter.

I wasn't going to press my luck any further.

I wonder if checkpoint officials are as adamant about taking their lunch promptly during the 12-1 or longer lunch hour as local citizens? Anyone notice if checkpoints are running during lunch hour?

the reason they don't hastle the riders on the side is they can't touch a rider or driver if they are not driving, if they move away from the said bike / or car they cant be touched, this applies for the LTO

When I was a boy and rode my "tuned" Moped with pride, I thought to be very clever to stop my vehicle as I ran into a check point, I got off, killing the engine and tried to pass it while pushing the Moped, that did not work at all and they impounded my "one and all" and I had to pay and "detune" it at the police station...

Sorry, but I believe this falls under one of those superstitions about the laws as well. I'm more than certain they CAN ask for the registration if you are sitting on a non moving bike. If not everyone would just get off their bike at a police checkpoint and start pushing, "it's not mine officer, I'm just pushing it to the mechanics shop for my mama". Riiiight.

The 10-point advisory (for checkpoints) follows:*
A checkpoint must be well-lighted, properly identified and manned by uniformed personnel.
Upon approach, slow down, dim headlights and turn on cabin lights.
Never step out of the vehicle.
    Lock all doors.
    Only visual search is allowed.
Do not submit to a physical or body search.
You are not obliged to open the glove compartment, trunk or bags.
Ordinary/routine questions may be asked. Be courteous but firm with answers.
Assert your rights, have present of mind and do not panic.
Keep your driver’s license and car registration handy and within reach.
Be ready to use your cellphone at any time. Speed-dial emergency number.
    Report violations immediately.
    Your actions may save others.

This was put out by the PNP chief last year. Don't ask me how some of these rules apply to motorcycles.

One thing they always ask is for you to open your utility box. That can't be required then, if glove compartment isn't.
I once was stopped when on my V-max and they asked me to open my "U-buck", I have no clue what he meant. I then explained he wanted to see under my seat. So, I just asked if he got tools :D

What's the checkpoint near the south city limits (or maybe it near Black Pearl?) with the little desk at the side of the road? A friend told me it's the on the spot traffic court and you pay your fine at the desk

Time for the pre-Christmas fleecing already?
