Are there any expats in the Dumaguete area who really like to play chess? I used to play in chess tournaments when I was a teenager (but of course that was 30 years ago... we're talking about back in the Reagan administration, OK?). I was never much good: USCF rating 1214. But I still love the game, and would be happy to find some fellow chess enthusiasts. Playing on the internet is one thing, but actually sitting across from somebody with a real chessboard is what it's all about.

Well I have a chess board WITH chess pieces :cigar:.

I certainly have no rating - but do like to play.

I live in Cadawinonan, but currently have no transport (car is being sold). Bacong is a fair way from here.

There is a long-standing chess club in Dumaguete. I can't tell you where, I live in Sibulan. Here it's a set of tables in the park near the police station. Competition is good. There are tournaments. Weekends, tables are taken up by schoolkids.

and I thought Tony Abiera is an ELO 2000 player from Valencia. or maybe I am mistaken.

I play chess.... just for recreational fun. Who else likes to play?
