I know there were many posts here before about recommended Dentists in Duma, but at that stage we were still in Bacolod, can anyone suggest a good Dentist without the need to Pawn my car.
I have been going to the dentist 2Fl Robinson's Mall since they opened. Last teeth cleaning 6 mos ago cost 500p, Friday's cost was 600p, a 20% increase. I have the same amount of teeth so I guess there was another reason for the increase.
We very highly recommend Dr. Mae Ann Tia. She specializes in children but she does us somewhat mature children also. Both my Asawa and I see her every 6 months. P600 for an exam, thorough cleaning, and whitening as required. At the mall you are only paying the rent. A couple of years ago when we first started seeing her as recommended by a friend of ours Dr. Tia knew immediately what to do/not to do when I told her I was "Mercury sensitive". 90% of the medical profession in the States has no idae what that means. That impressed me. I do believe Dr. Tia is also still teaching denistry. So you can bet your boots she is up-to-date. But when you see her, relax, she just got married about 2 months ago. All I can say is what a fortunate guy ! Her office is at the end of Lower Lukewright Street right on the corner. The same street that turns into the Blvd. Her office is right by that bridge that crosses over to the Chinese church I think it is. I have two numbers 0906-216-0111 Rhea the dental assistant, Dr. Tia I think is this one 035-422-9646.
My wife started seeing Tia about a year ago on the recommendation of a friend. She really likes her. She does a good job on cleaning and is a good entertainer. There were some issues that made me suspect her of overcharging, the first was a "surgery" involving an impacted wisdom tooth, for P8000. It also became apparent that she has different fees for different persons. About a month ago my wife developed a bad toothache on the right upper molar. She went to Tia, who proclaimed the tooth needed to come out. The quote this time was P6000. It was suspicious also because this tooth had a huge cavity, and Rony has had Dr. Tia fill about 10 teeth in the last year, and had been to see her just a month prior and nothing was said about this problem. How could this tooth have been missed? This time I made Rony go to Garupa. She had been to Garupa before, but evidently Garupa was Grumpy that day, and they didn't hit it off very well. However, Garupa's credentials, equipment, and reputation far surpass that of Tia. Theoretically in my book her fees should be more than that of Tia. Garupa was horrified, and at first thought Rony's pain was coming from a filling previously done by Tia. When she did figure out what tooth it was, she pulled it, in just a minute or two, for P550 including anesthetics (just a little bit less than p6000). All the work that Tia has done over the last year needs to be redone. All the fillings were put on over the top of decay. I'm not a dentist, but I do know what happens if you put bondo and paint over a rust spot without first removing the rust! I do hope her teachings are better than her practices. An entire year of dental work was all for nothing, it all needs to be done over again. Tia no more! I don't care how "personable" and "pretty" she is. Larry
Thanks for the feedback, I will pass your post onto Dr. Tia and hear her point of view. There are always at least 3 sides to every story. In any event I would never have any dental or medical work done without 3 opinions. Getting 2 more opinions is a small price to pay.
Yes, I intend to send Rony to yet a third dentist to get yet another opinion on the rust issue. However, P6,000 seems a pretty outrageous quote for something that Garupa did in less than 5 minutes at a cost of P550. I'm not sure how Tia could justify that one. Larry
For what little it's worth....I went to a Filipina dentist in Jeddah several years ago....with great expectations based on reports from Filipino workers I knew. Anyway, I had a filling that fell out....and she decided that there was not enough material to re-fill it and the tooth needed pulling.... It took her almost two hours to 'pull' the tooth......That would have been fine...unfortunately I was so shot up that I didn't realize she was crushing the tooth and pulling the big bits she could find.....For the next couple years I had slivers coming out my gum complete with pain...Anyway....I got it corrected here in Oz when I came back with a bridge and all good. You get what you pay for.....
