A Tsunami can travel up to 800 kms per hour. The one in Japan last year hit Sendai 8 minutes after the earthquake. If there had been one from this earthquake, it would have hit Dumaguete before the warning. I believe there is more danger with all the trafffic heading up the road to Valencia right now than any risk of getting wet in Dumaguete but it makes for an interesting afternoon. The park in Valencia is full of people. Maybe we can start a party, haha!

Google Earth's elevation info says Valenica is 400 feet above sea level?

Our place is 130 feet ASL or so

Edit: looks like Valencia is more like 700 feet ASL

    Someone will be selling snacks..

Traffic is pretty much at a stand still along the road to Valencia

I'd suggest the road to Valencia be one way (west) during any serious tsunami warning

We've heard local rumors that both Robinson Mall and Hypermart are both closed. Avoiding panic-shoppers and all the theft in the chaos that would happen, I suppose. We are just stayin' home...

Robinson's Mall and many other businesses shut down and the workers went home. Had a late lunch at Casablanca, the Rescue Patrol were passing by the main streets announcing no tsunami warning to worry about.

Well, while everyone was rushing to get to Valencia where we live, we went to the beach. Nothing to see there either. Valencia has more people in it now than it does during fiesta.
