I would have turned the fire hose on the kids for a few seconds....problem solved.

 

This is second hand info so if anyone can confirm please do. No injuries??? Hope they had good insurance.

I just talked with a nice couple in True love as I ate dinner and they had just been down to look and talk to witnesses. Apparently both Vida and el dorado complete write off. Apparently the nipa roof caught fire and they had plastic drop ceilings underneath which also caught fire and melted down to the bedding and furniture inside setting it on fire. They said the hotel was a total loss and the condo's next door all were lost except 1. Also the construction next door was pretty much gone too. Apparently the firetrucks showed up with no water (as seems to be the norm for PI) and by the time they got back and were trying to put the fire out a lot of local kids were hampering their efforts as they were running into the structure and stealing everything that wasn't nailed down or on fire.

 

Just got back from there. Appears as though el Dorado is pretty much toast, Vida homes burned extensively. Fire was still going half an hour ago. Major traffic jam in the area. Unless you're on a bike, best to stay away, or walk on the beach. A little concerned about burning embers - we're a few kilometers south, the direction of the wind.

 

You can't get insurance when your place has a grass roof.
