On Tuesday the 27th I move to Valencia, I noticed that in Negros there are many power outages, here where I live now in Cebu it is not common for that to happen, now I wonder if I should get myself a generator to have on standby? If/when I do it will likely be Honda and perhaps around 2kw output, where are the better places to shop for one in Dumaguete? Dave
Omega is where I bought mine. He will have to order it. Du Ek Sam also sells Honda generators, they charge alot more than Omega. Omega is located at South National Highway on the left side after you pass the intersection at Robinsons going to the market area.
Wherever you purchase it, make sure you get the right brand. Don’t even bother with American or Chinese brands. Du Ek Sam sells the right brand (Japanese) and after 8 years it still starts with 1 or a maximum of 2 pulls. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks Gents for the info Japanese brand are you referring to Honda or some other? Never having had any serious thought on having a Genny before, I expect to pay around 30K for something decent and rated around 2 to 2,5kw output?
I bought a generator several years ago when was Typhoon brown out. It's amazing how soon out of all the chaos that the electric came back... In hindsight I should have purchased a smaller generator just to run lights and pump water, generators are thirsty on fuel also noisey. Mine has been put away now for a couple of years....was a knee jerk reaction to purchase and not cheap, imported machine from Japan. Buy a small semi silent Honda.
Since arriving here in Valencia the general advice I have been given is to hold off a while and that it is likely it will not be a prime requirement, you say yours has been put away for two years so I guess that confirms that advice? It does make sense to buy the small Honda if required. Thanks Dave
Brown outs are a very frequent occurrence, way too frequent imho. But, I've found they usually just last for a few hours. Most important is to have good emergency lights that come one when the power goes off, and a good UPS for your computer. I have only fired up my generator once, that was back in January when our power was off for three days. I was glad to have it then, but it's not like we run and turn it on every time the power goes off, usually a good supply of candles and flashlights will get us through a few hours of brown out. My generator will not power my aircon units or my water pump, so we have those on separate breakers so that when I need the generator I can flip the breaker to switch those off and just power the lights and fridge.
Recommendation: spend a little more and buy a Japan product as opposed to a China brand. Both Uymatiao and Polaris normally carry quality generators.
