Is the burning of dried vegetation in the area something that is seasonal? I had not noticed this until the last few weeks. Admittedly, I've only been here since September. Managed to go since October (when I came to Valencia) with no aircon, but today I had to run it for the first time to escape choking from all the fires started nearby to burn dried leaves, stems, etc.

If it is mostly seasonal, when does it stop? I suppose it is related to the dry summer season. I guess I should plan my holidays abroad from late March to early June.

My household garbage is collected by Dauin. They will not take organic matter so we just burn it.

Go up the mountain to where you can get a good look at Dumaguete just before sunset. It'll look like city is on fire.

I lived for a while in a compound on the beach in Zamboaguita. There, the groundies buried organic waste - tree clippings, palm fronds etc - in the sand. Sometimes, they piled it up and burn it. A couple of times they buried household waste in the sand, too

Like the locals who burn household rubbish beside the river so the next flood takes it out to sea and out of sight... :o o:

My best recollection is that people burn whatever they want whenever they want. I think the barangays are supposed to police that, but it isn't done.

The neighbours do this every afternoon burning close to their Pig Sty's, I am told it is so their Pigs do not get bitten and fall sick, I cannot see the point in it as the Mozzies operate on a mainly dusk to dawn time-line and are still very active once the smoke has died down... :o o:
