Same experience and it made me think about losing the useful information often provided by the (dwindling number of) members of the Forum.

So can anyone come up with a system (even if only email) which would enable people to maintain group contact if ever this site goes down permanently? The group could then create a new Forum of some form.

I guess that Whatsapp group chats could be a way forward if necessary. I say this as an 'expert' in that I have never used Whatsapp!

Obviously the main advantage of a forum like this is that the information provided is not part of a single unorganized group-chat like on social media, whether it's a Facebook group, a Messenger or Whatsapp group. However, with people's attention span and desire to look for better options diminishing, almost all questions/discussions end up on those social media, where the same questions get asked over and over again, and searching for similar questions/answers is hard or close to impossible.
A forum can be organized according to subject and is easy to search.
To be honest, with even the last moderator appearing to have disappeared, and the owner having been not interested for a long time, it might be a better bet to start/set up a new forum while the old one is still alive.
Whether or not people in those social media groups can be convinced to step outside of the facebook algorithm and log in to a forum, is questionable though.
I fear we are the Last of the Mohicans in that respect.
