I know a young lady with moderate hearing loss in both ears. She wasn't accepted in school because of it and has worked as a helper for a few years.

Does anyone know the approximate cost for 1 or 2 hearing aid's (depending on my budget)? She is a very honest and good young lady and I would like to improve her life if possible.

Many organizations collect used hearing aids i.e. Lions Club, Sertoma etc. Perhaps she can be fitted for 1-2 at no charge. If such organizations exist in PI.

Thank's for the information. I will look around for a used pair and do what I can to help this young lady.

Lions exist in DGT, think Edward Du, (EDU & Associates- accountants), above STEDS convenience store, near the market, is in the Lions. Ask him, he's a good guy, very approachable.

The hearing aid industry can be a real can of worms. Lot's of hype. In the US "top of the line hearing aids" can run $8000 MSRP for a pair. I suspect your friend can get by for a lot less.

Try this link. It is a good forum for hearing aid info. Post you situation and questions. Someone may have a solution for you even though you are in the PI. Hearing Aid Forums | Hearing Loss | Hearing Aids - Powered by vBulletin

    Good luck....Michael

My wife needed hearing aids and I tried to do some price comparisons because I too was shocked by the pricing. Basically it depends on the brand and features. I couldn't find any significant price difference for the same hearing aid although there was a huge difference for different brands and models. It's unfortunate that these are not covered by insurance.

I priced them at a hearing clinic here and they started at P52,000 per pair minimum and up over P100'000. No comment.

If you can find a Veteran with hearing aid(s) maybe he'll give the young lady his old one the next time he gets his replaced with one with a stronger amplifier.
