Charlie, you are correct and I know what you are saying. But in this case, I had it turned all the way down and every few minutes it would squeal very loud. After the cleaning it worked fine, but she is still scared. I will get a new battery and lay it on the table in front of her for as long as it takes to gain her confidence. I hope it works. Ron
