This my friend is a Fantastic Question, Seems my two crews are not reading from the same Hymn Sheet. some are thinking and using metric and others imperial, a lot of confusion & waste . I am sure, it is all sorted on this build but Those about to build, need to ensure, just what measurements are going to be used. It will save a lot of heartache and in some ways, as I have had, Money as well.

Tony...everything is metric. All the tape measures on site show both as some of the workers think better in inches and feet.

I am actually very thankful that I have been brought up with metric , accuracy and simple straight forward approach to it , there has always been a hiccup here and there when building at our house , because Papa and his crew use imperial and I am metric , I have never even seen an imperial building plan , only old site survey and they used to be in chains and links , strangely enough when talking round flexible ductwork here for airconditioning systems inches is more prominently used than metric , and also copper sizes are related to inches , but that is the only exception to the norm of metric in Australia

I came up with inches and feet and that was what was reflected on drawings and trade sizes of conduit, pipe, etc. The past 7 years (Korea & Afghanistan) all the drawings are metric, which makes sense as your workforce are from metric countries. I'm comfortable with metric as I use it everyday, but still find myself converting back to inches and feet in my head.

I designed the house in metric because it is easier to get exact measurements and it seems most drawings are in metric in the Philippines (that I've seen). The sketch plan of our lots were metric as well when we received them.

I asked the wife and she said they teach both in school, but all rulers are in inches. Some of the workers seem to want to use metric and others inches. I can say 10cm and get a blank stare but if I say 4 inches they'll get it. Main reason for the tape measures that have both. I think they are trying to transition to metric but it will take time.

I think the metric system is better (base 10), but since I came up with feet and inches my mind automatically tries to relate a measurement to that. I doubt the US will ever go completely metric, at least not in my lifetime.

Shawn , funny isn't it , that if you refer to how tall someone is you would , as we do here , say 6 foot not 1800mm , but on our drivers licence it is 1800 mm , but yeah much prefer metric so much more accurate form of measurement in a simple form , take care

Shawn , going metric is going to be pretty impossible in the states , they are still driving on the wrong side of the road , ha ha ha

I was stationed in Japan for over 6 years and they drive on the left side of the road. I traveled often so I was having to go back and forth on what side of the road...scared more than my share of folks by turning into oncoming traffic.

We could always tell the new folks to the base...their windshield wipers were going while making a turn.
