I need a pump of sorts to fill a water tank on a tower 25 feet tall, i ran across ram pumps that have beem used for donkeys years, i need flaper valves, i have seen home made ones that are silent, but a bit fiddley and would not have longevity, i though of making my own quiet valves from a small solid rubber ball say 20mm in diameter, has anyone ever had experiance from ram pumps?

You can probably find what you need at Polaris or Matiao. I had a water pump hooked up to a tank at a lower elevation than the shower heads for when the water pressure went out but I know nothing about it other than how to turn it on.

I had never heard of a ram pump until this post. Read a bit about them but still question why not get an electric pump and backflow valve, the tank can be filled manually or using float switches.

The concept is really cool and other than what I read I have not seen it; it would not work for me as I am getting my water from a well not a source higher than the ram pump.

I would love to hear more as you go forward on this as it is something I've never done and the concept is interesting, especially here.

My water tower is more than 25 ft above the pump. The centrifugal pump is 0.5 Hp from about P 1800.
The fill pipe from the pump go's in the top of the tank so no check valve needed.
I have further a float switch in the tank what regulates the water level. It works fine for the last 9 years.
