I think that part of the problem isn't so much the growth, because there has been plenty of that, it is who is growing. Small businesses are going under and large corporations, many paying little too no taxes, are taking over. The more these massive corporations grow the faster people become slaves to these corporations. Another issue is all the debt governments are accumulating. Somebody has to pay for that.
How does it go from "suggests" to "will"? Who is this person? Where is she getting this information from?
OK, i think i finally understand the increased Rt. We now know (or most of us do) that the new variant spreads faster, but has anyone seen whether the new variant makes the increased cases SICKER, or results in more hospitalization ???? The surges in the states are from (rant deleted), so that won't tell us if hospitalization increases are from the variant. I will post my other comment in another thread, not "serious covid."
Trials are ongoing in the UK to establish whether the new variant makes people "sicker" but they do know that it affects more children and young adults than the original variant. (i.e. they get sick and are no longer necessarily asymptomatic). So I guess, by inference you could say that a certain group of the population do get "sicker". But really it's too early to make hard and fast judgments.
Other news on the new strain of coronavirus is that it is now thought to have potentially originated in Italy. A man there has been tested positive from March through to September, but his viral type was only tested recently. It has been discovered to be the same as the strain first thought to have occurred in the UK. I struggle to believe that this exact mutation has been transmitted through many countries via transmission. I would think this is more likely a natural mutation and could occur anywhere, but again would defer to the experts.
Rhye, Deeptri is a clinical epidemiologist who I think is still associated with the Sanger Institute, and Queen Mary, University of London. I caught a BBC blurb that the variant increased R by .7. I found her on twitter #Covid19 as the only reference to R increasing by .7. She also referenced the twitter publication of an updated report from scientists studying and measuring the variant. I saw no reference to an increase of .7 in the report, but it was Greek to me. The scientists acknowledged her. I just repeated her statement that the doubling time will fall. You can google all of this.
Thanks for the clarification. I'm generally dismissive of any social media sources/posts, especially ones that do not provide any sources. Social media gives every idiot with an internet connection (and that's a lot of idiots) a voice and I don't even bother anymore to search who a person is. It is just not a trustworthy place for news or information IMO.
I have not understood why she says the rate of spread almost doubling with the new variant is a "huge advantage" - but I have not seen the whole article or have misunderstood something.
