For many years i have used Skype when i need to make a call to the UK but over the last few years it has changed so much that for me it has become harder and harder to use.
I am looking for an alternative so can anybody in the forum recommend another company or app similar to Skype ?

You can say that again. If someone has a better suggestion I'm all ears.

If it's not broke don't fix it.

Alternatives. Most Apps are more complicated then need be. These creators never leave well enough alone.

The only places i have to call in the UK is my bank or credit card company and i don't think they are connected to whats app, viber or facetime.

There is "Viber Out", but I have not used it. I find skype ( using a phone number in the UK I purchased) okay as I call family members who have no idea what an app is - the only issue is when the internet is weak.

There's 3 types of international calls that save money compared to actually making an international telephone call.
    1. Friends, family, anyone who is reachable over the internet: use whatsapp, messenger, or any app in Crystalhead's list above, common requirement is that both parties have the app.
    2. Calls to companies / parties who only have a phone number but don't need to call you back: use voip calls (Voice over ip) through something like DialNow to make a cheap call (for most countries around 2 cents per minute or less) where at your end the call is made through an app (internet) but in the receiving country it gets directed to a regular phone number (landline or mobile).
    3. When you need to be reachable without the other party incurring high costs to call you, and you wish to enable that: you need a local number in the country of origin with a forwarding service for calls through the internet.
I would say though that if it's really urgent they can place a short call directly to my number here after which I can call them back. If a 2 $/€/£ call is too much to ask in an emergency then pffft.

I am still using skype but apparently not for much longer, i just found out after spending a lot of time trying to add £5 to my account that they don't let you do that now and you have to pay a monthly subscription fee for each country you want to call.:greedy:
So looks like i will need an alternative once my £10.33 balance is used up :bag:
