We are looking at buying a washing machine and I want input from those of you who have them. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the machines here that have no paddles to move the clothes around....do the clothes actually get clean? We are just trying to decide whether or not to invest in a front load washer or one of the cheaper models they use here?
Go for the front loader. But, make sure to instruct those using it how it works. After a few weeks the handle was broken on ours, as the door locks when running a program. When someone tried to open it and couldn't, as always, just apply more force until it opens. CRACK!
Being British I have mostly used Front loaders { Automatics } all my life, I take you are American & are used to top loaders like you find in Laundromats. I have a Samsung Front loader here , bought it in SM Bacolod & have had No problems with it, It can take a 12 KG Load & is a low economy user of both water & Electricity, They don't seem to have Automatic washing powder here, So you have to be frugal with how much powder you use. If you are not used to Automatic machines , the difference in powders is that Automatic powders are less foaming than regular powder Yea the automatic washers really do clean the clothes ! Very few people in Europe use top loaders which are considered old fashioned & Inefficient in general. Be care full what you may consider to buy. as there are a lot of look a like front loaders here. that are not automatics at all , just try to look like them, Price is usually the give away I paid P32,000 for my Samsung.. you get what you pay for as with everything....
Just a personal preference I think. We have an 8.0k Top loading fully automatic Samsung we bought in Dumaguete 3 years ago. No problems at all. Gets our close clean no problem, and my asawa is a clean nut.
Hmm, I see to recall top loaders in the house and front loaders in the laundry mat when in the US. There are energy efficient top loaders out in the US. I've always considered front loaders to be more of an industrial strength (and more expensive) washing option. Apparently that's an American thought process. I have some cheap top loader with a side spinning thing.......it gets the job done. But I don't have kids that completely soil their cloths. Anytime I have cloths that are stained the helper hand washes the garment first. Even on the most simple of washing machine like mine (which is only a timer and water is filled by turning on the hose) I had to train my helpers how to use. Every new helper I have had I caught them bending over the opening and hand washing in the thing. O-|
We use a top-loaded Sanyo purchased here 33 months ago. No problems and clothes are clean and the spin cycle gives you clothes that are partially dried but still need to be hung on the line for complete drying. The agitator, although short, works fine.

After arriving to Dumaguete, I'm not sure the top loading washing machines typical in the U.S. get clothes clean either. I was amazed at how clean my clothes were after having to hand wash my clothes for the first time when I first got here. Since then I have picked up a Samsung top loader which looks nothing like the washing machines I'm used to. It seems to get the clothes clean though. There are washing machines here which are basically nothing more than buckets for hand washing. I asked the sales lady how they work and stopped her from explaining once she started on the hand washing bit. How the **** can you call it a washing machine when you have to do work by hand?
I don't know how they can call them washing machines if the washing is done by hand. We used to call them wash tubs. Do they have an automated spinner on one side? Perhaps that is how they are getting away with it....
