I got the run around too years ago, wife and I went to the clay town and got ripped there. something to the extent of 80 peso a kilo. I went to the ag dep. run around agian, But, one guy overheard and stopped me on the way out. I have sacks of it now, think I paid something like 100 peso a sack, heavy sacks, maybe 50 kilo. or maybe was 200 q sack. Been awhile. My directions is just the same as a skunk, stinks. But will try, Its a chinese guy with junk looking shop across the street from optimas, on the east side of the street in the center of the block. south of the park. If I see it I will give the name of his store, I still owe him a cutting of orange sweet potato, and a couple alfalfa plants. Started BS n why I needed the lime and he was exited to know I had both.

On a similar note, does anyone know where to find "slaked lime" of calcium hydroxide?

    hey kd fish...
i imported a pound of slacked lime (calcuim hydroxide), we use it to make masa. i can part with some, depending on how much you want.

my neighbors are all famers of some sort and no one up here has heard of it. i'm sure there's a quantity of calcuim hydroxide sitting on a dusty shelf somewhere in dumaland, just hafta find it. did you check the dress shops 8 )

I will go with what I have for now and see how that works out. As it is granular and not powder it will be not as quickly available but also should treat the soil over a longer period. I need to do some internet sleuthing to see about quanity applications.. you know how much..how often..

A few years ago I bought a couple of 40 kg bags of lime for soil treatment by in Tanjay.
Coming from Dumaguete they r'e on the right hand side of the road just before the "highway" curves around the market.

Considering the ever looming effects of lack of distribution and the *out of stock* epic statment I think that would be a place to try while traveling through to somewhere else and just checking it out. But its good that you remembered and the info gets here for everyone to see..Thanks

Yes, Alex at Green Farms sold me a couple bags of the stuff he called "lime." I tried using it in my garden but it didn't seem to have any effect. But that may not be the fault of the product. Before applying it, I had my soil tested by the Ag Department people in Duma. Both times their test indicated that my soil had a Ph of under 5, hence quite acidic. That's why I decided I needed the lime. A year or so later, though, using two different methods of testing my soil, the Ph seemed to be about 7.2. At that level, lime wouldn't be helpful. So........who knows??

Another alternative to using lime is to use wood ashes. Hardwood ashes are best. Try burn bamboo then spread ashes in the areas you are planting. I'd like to hear your results if you decide to do that. (Gardening sites often point out that wood ashes are a suitable alternative to using lime. At least, if you use wood ashes you know what you're getting. If you buy "lime" locally, who knows what it really is?)

    More about local lime

I just noticed that I still have about a cement size bag of the stuff I bought from Green Farms. Anyone is welcome to have it. Bring your own bag!
