Well, who would have believed this Number, I see only about 8/9 hardy members Posting here on a regular basis.. Come on you Guys and Gals, I can remember some years ago when we used to have Battles Royale, Shouting matches, some good and a lot bad but at least, we were all talking, Maybe not always to but at each other. Mostly all in good fun and it was like a TV Soap, all of us, waiting for tomorrows episode. We have a new Administration, who, I feel, have worked Hard, came out and asked for help, they got the Help they needed, Well enough, to continue, SO, Come on Guys and Girls, Please, lets give them a Forum, that was worth all the Trouble, they went to. I may be Outspoken at times and I have been Suspended, many times, in fact, my membership sometimes felt like, it was on Velcro but I was always there, ever ready, with Wit and Sarcasm when needed, to help and make/keep DI alive, We have a new lease of life now, PLEASE, as my old C/O used to say about Leave, USE IT or you may LOSE IT. lets create many, new Threads, Post Plenty, Show Larry and Rony, that their efforts are appreciated. Many of you, now have a vested interest, so lets make the most, of what you, have invested in :D For me, I will always be me and have no intention of Changing, Like me, or Hate me, I am here, popping up when least or with anticipated expectations. JP (Just being a member with Vision)
That's the spirit JP , let's hope positivity is infectious , have a vote on favourite thread or something, my vote goes to house build by Shawn M , a very well put together thread that is backed up by great pictures of his progress , the rank and file who have liked or paid interest to whatever I have put on is the only reason you take time out to do it , there is a wealth of knowledge out there , and humour , good on you JP , for creating a positive spark Tony
Jack, I understand your plea. Given the large membership but the few allowed to view the thread for only those who gave money to the forum loan, and realizing the majority of sponsors have left this forum to another one, we need to know what must be done to keep this forum going. What now is the Dane’s position? It appears a new business plan is required.
I've never really been around when this was a very active forum. Many short timers coming and going but not much other than that. In all honesty I think the website is long overdue for a redesign (the main site and the forums). I think the first thing is to get more clicks on the main website. Hire a few local writers to have articles on things going on in Dumaguete, nightlife, Fiestas, politics, college life. Have a local and foreigner writer. It needs to appeal to young, old, tourist, resident local and foreigner. Right now I don't see much appeal to the site other than to older expats looking to retire. Have all articles link to the forum thread that should be created for every new article and let people come in. Integrate the forum into Tapatalk, it's free, this site is not nice to mobile. Tapatalk If it doesn't have a Facebook, Youtube and Google + site yet it should. Just my opinions on what would make the forum more visible. I'd even volunteer some time to help set that up if it were needed.
Agreed , have a look at the front page , news 26 feb!!!!!!! and yeah I am a newcomer , but I invested quite a bit of money to help this site , and you know what I have tried to contribute a bit of humour in that section , and a bit of interest in other areas , and you know the ones that give a s%%t , because they have the courtesy to give a like every now and then , attitude is everything in business you just have to make sure it is the right attitude , and yeah I am well qualified to know that , successful and self employed for 28 years , Wrye I think your offer should be welcomed with open arms Tony
I've been a member of the site for a little while, granted in the beginning I did not post much as I do not live in the Philippines yet and had mostly questions. I've always checked the site daily just to see what is going on and have always liked the site, even with the banter a year or so ago with folks getting twisted about posts. I always found it a great tool to see what was happening, and as an expat it is good to hear from both locals and fellow expats that have been living there for years. I don't know what makes a forum great and another just "OK" but will agree with JP that the new owner's want to make this site work. I would have no clue how to do what they do and would not want to, but I do want to see it succeed as it has been very helpful to me to get info. I've been posting quite a bit in the past couple months because I am building a house and I think a lot of folks can relate to that. I also have interests in gardening, self-sufficiency, fishing and woodworking. I think a forum is about posting info that folks can use or even debate a bit. I think everyone should remember that the "expats", "foreigners" or "aliens" are in a similar boat either part-time, full-time or are planning to live in the Philippines and any knowledge and experience is useful. I know I have appreciated many posts and responses over the years. Shawn
I understand that the humor thread probably the longest running one here but in all honesty, when I get the email update that someone has posted there I end up disappointed and just delete it. When I want to see funny stuff I'll go to Google funny stuff or watch one of the millions of idiots that have managed to save up enough money for a camera on youtube. If I see an email about a reply to a comment I'll visit the site. Other than that I only come here when I have exhausted all other online forms of entertainment. Not meaning to offend anyone posting recently but the threads here have been quite boring and designed more towards the elderly expat. There has not been any threads recently that would even remotely appeal to a younger tourist or resident. The market for diving and outdoor tourists is not being touched. I good article on local resorts/diving/outdoor activities would get a lot of hits off of Google. Dumaguete has the potential to be a major tourist stop if it could get an online presence. I found Dumaguete by doing, literally, an "eni mini miny mo" on when looking for an apartment online when I was tired of Olongapo. Then, which was about 4 years ago, there was basically no online presence of Dumaguete that even remotely caters to younger to middle aged tourists. It is a market that needs to be catered to. (There must not be true to Nordic language websites as I see plenty of those tourists but very few native English speakers. I'm not sure where all you older native English speakers found out about the place but it doesn't appear to be from a Google search.) Point is; articles, website, social networking mobile apps! It will draw a lot more people. .......did I mention Tapatalk integration yet? It's free and they share advertisement revenue with forum owners.
FYI, this is a search for "Philippines" on Tapatalk. View attachment 10445 Motorcycles, "addicts" (I wouldn't have thought that one had anything to do with tourism) Ford, Cebu and Mitsubishi. Only two sound even remotely interesting and I just happened to be banned from one of them and I'm joining the other right now. Searching Dumaguete returns absolutely no results. Here is the lovely photo upload pop-up from mobile. View attachment 10446 Note that upload button doesn't even remotely look like a button and once that is clicked there is no additional button to apply or post. I only found the invisible button out of sheer aggravation, randomly pushing the screen. Ugh, Tapatalk please.
Tapatalk Really, I would do it myself if I could. 6 steps....... Land it's free.......and you can make money off of their advertisements......and it doesn't suck to view and post on mobile like the website. I don't work for them, promise! View attachment 10447 View attachment 10448
