My gf and I like to walk the boulevard 3 or 4 evenings a week. If I ignore the sewage smell I can actually enjoy it and my gf likes it that she meets her friends and watches the tourists and enjoys all the activity there.

Last night about 100 meters at the end of the boulevard was blocked off by a display of Kymco motorcycles. They take up the whole of the boulevard at that location and may as well be a store front.

Although there are vendors everywhere, they never block the whole path so it is virtually impossible to walk past them. yes, they are at the end of the boulevard but regular walkers will stroll the entire length and feel infringed upon when cut short.

So am I the only one who thinks this is outrageous? Is there a forum to let the 'powers that be' in Dumaguete know that tourists (my Visa says I still am one) and locals alike feel that is too commercial? Is someone in the city getting paid under the table for this to take place or can anyone rent a piece of the boulevard legitimately?

The place is still popular. Between 8 and 9 pm on a Friday night it is packed with people. Would be a shame for them all to move on if the place becomes too full of beggars and hawkers and retail stores.

go to the press club at the south end of the boulevard and complain. That's where the tourist police sits.
Or check if the Mayors car is in front of Sans Rival or Casablanca and complain direct to the "leader" his car is easy to spot and he is always there in the evening when in Dumaguete

I can't imagine anyone spending too long there unless they are a stone-deaf local. I went past it at 5 pm last night and the output from the mega speakers made the car windows vibrate. How on earth could anyone be enticed into making a purchase in such an environment ? The brain dead sales technique of any sales promotion having to be accompanied by ear splitting rap crap defies sane comprehension, especially as that particular promotion was done with a complete disregard for anyone else using other businesses on the boulevard.

We have never waked the blvd. at night. What is this “iconic” area normally like at night without the Kymco invasion?

In the evening it is astir with foreigners jogging or strolling or walking their dogs. Also filipinos doing likewise. Quite a few wayside massage people doing a good trade. Many vendors of filipino fare from balut to nuts. Some hawkers of local goods like carved ships and jewelry. Religious folks out in droves trying to convert folks. A few beggars looking for handouts. Huge numbers of tourists of local and foreign variety and they all congregate at the I heart Dumaguete sign such that it is almost impossible to get by there without blocking someone's photograph. A few lovers cooing in the shadows and a few wanna be lovers looking for partners. Occasional professional hookers looking for trade. Occasional folk sneaking a few drinks or cigarettes although the tourist police advise them to move on if they see them. A couple of retail tents have set up shop on the grass lately and now the Kymco invasion is threatening to upset the balance. (I mean if they get away with it then all the other vendors in town will see this as fair game).
