Government & Education A course on Nihingo (Japanese language)

I'm interested in studying Japanese and currently have internet resources and books to help out. However I don't think it's very helpful, it is, just that it's not enough for the time I can spare. I have a year or two before I go to Japan so before that I wan't to at least read at elementary level and be able to converse, and so I'm looking for a class or course where I can study this language. I checked the internet, but I can't seem to find up to date information, and so I'm planning to go to collages and ask if they have the course offering, since they may not have it up on their website because this subject can be considered elective.

So before I check it out, I'll be asking you guys if you know something, to.. you know, save some effort and to narrow things down. Any info or suggestions would be much appreciated, and if possible I'd like to keep things local or at least at a commutable distance since I'll still a student and all.
