Yeah, right. Just what Dumaguete needs is another restaurant... Whatever. Anyway, I've tried Tacos Tayo twice and found their food to be pretty good. Very small facility (plans to expand). Limited menu (plans to expand that, too). Prices are reasonable. But the tacos and quesadillas are worth the trip to their place on the south highway about 3 km south of Robinsons. Joe, the owner, is a good guy. His crew does a consistant job. I particularly like their flour tortillas. Best I've had anyplace. (No corn tortillas available now.)

Nice, how does this place stack up to Moon's? Does it resemble real tacos or is everything sweet like everything else here?

It's a more authentic taco than what is available at Moon's. The owner is from California, so he knows what a real (not Taco Bell) taco is and what real authentic Mexican food is. His only limitations are what is available here as far as ingredients go, and of course what his customers will pay. He makes his own flour tortillas, and uses seasoned (his own seasonings) ground (pork?) meat. And no, they aren't sweet. He will make them as mild or as hot as you want too, which is a bonus.

Do they compare to real authentic tacos made with corn tortillas, fresh cilantro, carne asada, fresh salsa, and good cheese? No, but they are the best I have had here in Duma so far, except the hard shell ones we make at home which cost quite a bit more to make than what he charges.

There is no comparison at all with Moons. Tacos Tayo is just a hole in the wall. Their menu is VERY limited. The tacos are prepared in flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas. But what they do offer comes as close to authentic in taste as anything I've encountered thus far in the P.I. Not sweet at all. Joe has plans to take over an adjacent space and to expand the menu. In the meantime, give it a try. (Personally I think Moon Cafe is not all that good.

I'm not a fan of Moon Cafe either. It's the only place that I know of which even attempts "Mexican" food.

Mike's Dive shop used to do some great taco's here, but they moved that to their resort.

I would love to see this guy move into his own place and maybe open up to suggestions. What I really want is a fat burrito.

Where exactly is Taco Tayo? I looked for it while we drove down south highway but didn’t see it. It is not the place by Big Boy liquor is it?

From the description I got from another thread, the place is two doors down from Big Boys Liquor.

Does Big Boys Liquor even exist anymore? I heard Matt took his family to the U.S.

Matt took his wife and child to the US, but he will be back. He left his family in charge of BB (oh boy).

Yes, it's in the same building as Big Boys, there is a huge painted sign says "Tacos".

Thanks, I ate there, not bad. For me, the Chicken Burrito with the “special salsa” at Mike’s Beach Resort is the best tasting Mex food in the area.
