I did not realize how much I like this site until I was unable to access it for a day or so. But its back up now. I find there are many folk here who are knowledgeable about things specific to Dumaguete and whenever I have a question I come here. In the last day or so these questions have come up in my life and I did not have DI to ask. Not that they are life changing events, but I missed being able to drop by and ask:

    1. There is a large bowling pin sign near the provincial hospital. Anyone know if they still have public bowling somewhere near there or is it an old sign?

    2. When my GF asked about buying a townhouse the saleslady said she needed a T.I.N. number to complete the sale. Is that common?

Oh yes, I also wanted to know if DumagueteInfo on Facebook is the sister to this site or owned by someone else.

Dave, I can Only answer ? 2 ; A T.I.N (Tax Identification Number) is required to be seen by a Lender (for Mortgage Purposes) also for Registering the sale and Placing it on BIR Records. (recording all taxes paid on a House, will be done on the same T.I.N Number.

The T.I.N is the way that lenders and others that need to know, gain Proof of Employment, Taxes Paid. Also Any Stated Amount Earned, Corresponds with BIR Records. (a Little bit of Big Brother I am afraid)

So in answer Dave, Yes it is Common and your GF won't get to the end of the sale without it.

Just as a Foot note, I agree with you, Losing DI for a day, can be a little unsettling when you need to know something or have something to say

So Welcome back Larry and Rony:cool:

Yes, there is a bowling alley there, but I have never been in it.

Yes, a TIN is usually required, if she don't have, just take her BC to BIR and apply for one. Expect a madhouse.

Yes, the dumagueteinfo facebook page is ours too.

Hopefully the site is stable now (Whew is right!), please let us know if you find anything that does not work.

Good job on the move. Yikes.

You just ended up keeping the same host?

Happy to see the site back up :-)

Dude - LW is one of the top 3 hosts on the market, so not a bad choice... Not the cheapest choice but definitely a stable solution.

LW is good for sure. I have used their "Storm on Demand" hosting service as well. That might actually be a cheaper route and possibly more versatile.

I mentioned in another thread that it's strange they had all this trouble. With Cpanel, you can even export the site as a Cpanel package and import it into a another instance. I assume the downtime was DNS issues though (moving the DNS server from your server to the new server?) Whatever, it's back now. We can all go on with our lives again.

Well, I will be the first to admit this is not my area of expertise. However I also put forth that I spent an entire day (6.5 hours) with LW support, with them trying to get something to work on my computer that would not work on theirs. So while I will say their support is prompt, I cannot say it was good.

If it were not for The Dane, we would still be offline. He did what LW support told me could not be done, due to that, we are back online with the new server.

Bottom line is, am I happy with LW and the higher fees they charge (for better service?)? No. Am I going to change servers again in the near future? Not if I can help it, better to pay the extra fees they charge (double?) than try to improve anything, at least at this point in time.

Dang, sorry I wasn't able to make it to any of the meetings. I would have been able to help you with this. Dealing with any (weird|bad|good but still problematic in certain cases|excellent but rare circumstances) hosting is almost like a daily job for me. If you run into any other issues, you can contact me as well. I think you can get my email address through the forum.
