Hi ya What gives with the blue PCV pipe, I'm can't quite understand, when I glued to bits of white PVC pipe together back in Auz they stayed glued, the pipe would break before the pipe would pull from the fitting. I have been fitting up a well pump and used 1" blue PVC as the suction pipe down into the well, "as I done before" glued everything the day before, lifting the suction pipe up to insert into the well one of the fittings pulled out. :-( cut 1" off and reglued and left it for a couple of hours and then fitted the the pipe, seemed to hang together. any ideas as to make this process less hit and miss?
As I've unfortunately found out there is different outside diameters of PVC pipe (at least on the electrical side as I'm not using PVC pipe for plumbing) and moldtex seems to be the best in PVC here and a heavy wall pipe. Joining a thinner wall pipe or fittings with a heavier wall pipe does not work. Got some PVC that was available in Tanjay and it did not work with the moldtex that I had ran, had to go get more pipe in Dumaguete. Don't know if your situation is the same, but mixing manufacturers of PVC here is like trying to mix electrical and plumbing pipe...different diameters. Shawn
I would make sure that the surface you are applying glue to is free of dust or moisture , in some instances we use a primer before applying the actual glue , I reckon it is a good idea to use a clean rag to wipe the surface before you apply the glue, particularly the inside of a bell end or elbow if there is any dust or such it could be what is doing it. Agree with Tony; always have used a primer first on PVC water lines. Also found some electrical elbows here that had some oil and grit...not sure why but had to clean them up before using them. Shawn
A; Make sure fittings and pipe are all the same brand. There are many different brands available in Dumaguete and not all are the same specs. B; Sand the end of the pipe and inside of fittings with course sandpaper to a "no gloss" finish. C; Use a solvent or solvent cement. If you follow all three instructions, you will have few if any problems. Larry
Additionaly, after sticking the two pieces together, rotate them a few times, so that the PVC is welded seamless, the solvent is "melting" the PVC and the rotating helps in "welding" the joint...
Use a primer first then glue. There are also different qualities of glue, some are not as good as others.
