No! it is not, one of those Threads that need, any real argument. It is something, that I feel should be on All our minds, Sooner than Later. During a normal (well as normal, as it can get, in my house at times) family meal, the usual monthly chat about Bills, Shopping, House Projects came up. My daughter asked if she could have something for her Guitar, not too sure what it was but anyway, My Wife said if there is enough money left we will see. Now being a cute and at most times an intelligent kid, she said but Daddy has just been paid [She says this, as she says,it sounds better than pension]:D She went on to say ( After we asked why, all the rush?) Well I thought I would get it all now, before Daddy Goes, ( Sweet thoughtful Brat) but it did raise a Question in my Mind. Are they, Ready, for my Passing? Not something I want to think about just yet but It will happen. Now, here is where we "Brits" (Of course, I can only talk about the UK) that have done the homework and made the necessary arrangements, can provide for our Families after we are gone. All my Pensions are passable onto Azon, they all have a Widows Pension attachment.[Hopefully, everyone has this attachment to their pensions?] ( if she remarries, well then she will lose them all.) We all I think, tried our best, to do our Homework for our Future here, but I am asking now, have we all done our Homework about Tomorrow? Tomorrow one day, will not come, for some us. SAD but it is a fact. Azon gets annoyed at me sometimes when I am Filing the paperwork for Extensions, Pensions, etc etc. mainly because I update the Files so that when I go. she has The Name, Phone numbers and email addresses ID numbers etc etc, of people she must, contact ASAP all she needs do is send Notarized Copies of the certificate ( Death) I have now produced templates, for each of the concerned pension people, all she has to do is enter the date and LBC them off with the DC, ASAP. It may take a month or two to come together but at least now, I can rest assured that I have done as much as I can, to ensure, that my 2 princesses can continue life without me. I don't want to sound Morbid but as they say in Spain; "Today I am alive and well" why, should I worry about dying? Of course we should, Worry, not just because of age or health but where we are. Today is Today! For some, Tomorrow, will not come. Most know me, as sometimes the fool, But I do have a serious side and today, I feel the need to ask, Are you, ready for your Demise? TODAY! is the TOMORROW! you were so WORRIED about Yesterday We all want to be here tomorrow, but as with others, after Health scares, we do need to think, like the boy Scout, " Be Prepared" Thank You for Reading JP:o
For the U.S. on social security, the wife has to be a U.S. citizen (which she is not and will to be) in order to receive my pension. However, my boy will continue to receive a monthly deposit and it will increase from today’s 50% to 75% when I exit. I would tell her to find a Brit next time but she is fussy and knows there are no good looking ones. lol
Pat my old mate, said with tongue in cheek, I hear what you are saying but they don't all, look like this View attachment 10950 Thanks Pat I knew, I could count on your Contribution and it is most, welcome. As always. All joking apart now, I hope you are continuing, to regain that Marine Stature.:D
I could be wrong, I will never get a cent from SS so haven't much interest, but I don't think your wife has to be a US citizen to get your pension, but she must have lived in the US 5 years or more. Larry
A friend of mine was living in Cebu and married to a filipina for just over 5 years. She was entitled to his pension when he died as 5 years of marriage is the magic number. At least it was in 2009. There is a lot more to the story, involving her participation in his demise and continuing to live with their driver. But none of that seemed to matter to the US embassy once she had proven 5 years or more of marriage. Disclaimer: I was not directly involved with her application for his pension so it may have been based on them having children together but she did get enough to live happily ever after.
The children would be eligible, payable to her as the trustee. However I don't believe she would get a check with her as beneficiary unless she had lived with him in the US for 5 years.
Jack, when the time comes that you drop off the twig, Azon will be entitled to a widows pension. As you are putting your affairs in order and making sensible arrangements, it's important for Azon to know that on your demise, she should notify the British Embassy Manila as soon as practically possible (0063-2-858-2200). She will be sent "The Bereavement Pack" and it includes the details and paperwork of how to claim the widows pension. She does not need to have resided in UK at all to claim it, as it is based on your National Insurance contributions that you paid to get your 65+ pension. There is also a widows entitlement on your military pension but that is not covered by the Embassy. In your particular case the claim would be made through RAF (Pay & Records) which I believe is still at RAF Innsworth. As you are already married this does not affect you, but the widows pension entitlement on the 65+ pension is likely to change in 2016. Those who marry a foreign national not domiciled in UK after 2016 may not be entitled to pension benefits. The ins and outs of it are still being thrashed out and are yet to be published. Those who are married before this date will still be entitled.
Well, me ole matey! Unless, you go before me, and I very much doubt that, coz only the Good die young expect, to get a Phone call or text from her COZ! Your Number is at the Head of All those Files. :p. NOW! that, is what I call call Trust and I would trust you, to do all you could to help. :dnr: if you don't mind me saying so? Unless, you have something to tell me JP
I think all the major western countries are really going to make it more and more difficult with pensions in the future because ageing populations mean more expense to the govt. All the laws in aus are changing because of this , the retirement age here is now 70 , good luck with being a bricklayer or carpenter until 70! . I know I will be in the same boat as Larry , so what I make between now and when I can't do it anymore is all I am going to get .
