 It is no secret I believe, that I visit my local sorry sorry each day, for a couple of Beers.

The one thing I have noticed, during my time out over the last 2 years or so, is the condition of the local childrens teeth. now I have seen some of these kids growing up, maybe 5 or 6 years old to begin with, now a couple of years later, they have teeth missing or the start of real decay.
The Teenagers are no better, especially the young ladies. they spend so much time hiding behind a hand to cover this unfortunate event.
What a great pity, Good looking Guys (so my daughter tells me) and Pretty, nice shaped Young ladies, that let themselves down, when they open their mouths.

Then, I have only to look at the Parents, to discover, It runs in the family.

I noticed a similar thing during my 15+ years in Spain. (There, cost, was No excuse, dental visits for Kids was a priority, in the Spanish Health System) obviously cost here, will be the reason but surely, it should be important to have them seen to. When will people realize, the 2nd set of teeth are it.

Or will it turn out like my Gran used to say " I came into this world without teeth, I may as well go out the same way"

They have to pay to have the extractions, so why not spend a little, to have them checked once in a while?
Maybe, we are in the middle of Resurrected Era, a bit of String and a Door Slammed shut.

The Lads, well, maybe it's a macho thing but the young Ladies?................

We have my wife's niece living with us and is 5yrs old now, she has a couple of teeth that need coming out at the top but hates the dentist, she has no choice and she goes twice a year. She has just had an infection in one of the bad teeth and had a course of antibiotics and now she needs them out.
Her sister who is just 4 yrs old has no front teeth what so ever and this is on,y due to poor dental hygiene and a diet of soft drinks and too much sugar, she is disparate to go to the dentist but again the same thing (no more money).
Also they have this old tradition here we just leave the milk teeth to rot,it won't hurt them, little do they know it could affect their gums or permanent teeth.
We are now going to see a pediatrician and have to have her sedated to get these teeth out at great expense I expect, but I think it's well worth it for the kid in the long term.

Last GF asked me if I want the BJ and if she should take her denture out. She was 23 and what should I say, it was different and interesting. My opinion after long term field studies ... teeth are overrated, I go for the multinational mouth

I'd be a little worried about the possible bacterial infections. The clap is one thing but gingivitis down there.....I don't want to think about it.

Beyond belief ( Or is it?)

Talking to my dentist last month (Which is why I started this thread mainly [well one of the reasons])

She told me that Mr President, had promised to allocate monies from his Sin Tax Collections, to facilitate a programme in schools for Visiting Dentists at schools.
Now we all know, that the Hospitals never, received the Cash they were promised. No where near, the things earmarked, out of this Tax were implemented.

" Mighty Oaks, from Little acorns grow" I believe is the saying.
Again we (They) are neglecting the Voters and possible Governments, of the Future.
" Suffer the little children" and they surely do, Suffer.

I thought Dentists were quiet cheap there? I have a young friend who lives in Cebu, I helped her through her last year of College and I too noticed her hand always in front of her face, I asked one day why? She removed her hand to show me her two front Teeth had a big Black hole smack in the middle! I told her to go straight to the Dentist where she had them White filled, it was great to see her beautiful smile! Around 18 months later, she had to have 3 of her front teeth removed, I paid for a denture which gave her back her confidence and smile once again. Now she has a Filipino Hubby and a new Son and is still smiling broadly from ear to ear, the one thing I did notice while I was there, was how WHITE the teeth are on so many of the Girls there! Do they get the enamel stripped or is it natural? If they are having their teeth whitened them I am sure therein lays a lot of the problems, trying to imitate their Idols on TV etc...

I had my teeth worked on in Manila and I found the work of good quality and very reasonably priced although I believe a local would have gotten a better price. I think it's a matter of relative cost, to me it was cheap, to a local by no means in a menial position, it could have been two months wages.

You are correct Robert, to me cheap, but to my young friend and her Family, as she put it; she would have ended up being 18 with an 80 year old hag's smile due to the fact that a simple 2500 pesos or so was out of their reach and teeth were not high on the list of priorities. :/
