Welcome to the board and to Duma. FYI lots of expats hang out at San Rival at the mall. Don't be afraid to walk up and say hello. Were all pretty friendly.

Thanks for posting. I am scheduled to arrive in Dumaguete on Sept. 5th. Nice to see how smooth it has been for you so far. It would be very helpful to know what the rent is, especially for me since I have no experience in the Philippines. I have been planning for about 18 months now and from what I can see an apartment like you describe should be available for around $200 US ??? Any info appreciated

Rent will vary depending on size, condition, location, landlord. From a unsecure nipa hut at one end for a couple thousand to luxury accommodations for 30 + thousand PHP. But generally speaking you can find a secure(?) 70 - 80 Sq. meter apartment for 8 -14 thousand. I can't tell you where they are, but I can show you when you arrive in Valencia of 2 or 3 that might suit your needs depending on your family size. One of the apartments we looked at was 100 + sq meters, but you will have to do a lot of cleaning and painting yourself. It was 8,000. I am no expert on the area as I am a new arrival. I hope others can add to/correct this information. If you're looking in Duma, I really can't be any help. I only considered Valencia as a destination.
