Wondering if anyone can help out with an experience or advice in transferring money from abroad to a bank in Dumaguete , or any other secure method that it can be done by . $ 50,000.00 AUD. Something that does not take a month to do.

Tony, we have an account with BPI (in my wife's name obviously) and I regularly transfer funds from my accounts with ABN-AMRO in the Netherlands using internet banking to her account. It's there (in the BPI account) within days and with her BPI card my wife can withdraw max PHP 20,000 per day. We find this setup quite convenient.

Well if you put up with the abnormally long 30 day wait to see your money in your Philippine account you will see the complete amount and not pay a transfer fee..as you paid it in the wait time. So if your not in any hurry to have a large sum of money moved then by all means walk in and give them a check drawn on your aussie bank. We cant always do that wait though and I have used several different transfer people. It has worked out for me that Xoom.com does the best job for me. A lot of places take 3 days and charge about the same as they do..ie you pay 4.99 USD from bank account to bank account. And you get their quoted rate. Which is always lower that the rate you can get from the money changer. I used to check 3 services everytime I moved money but I no longer do so. I have a smart phone can internet from anywhere and make an exchange. The bonus with them is that I have gotten my money just about instantly. Dialed the transfer..waited not even a minute to go check my email and the money has been moved..done.. You could stand outside the bank machine in line and call the transfer in and it be there waiting for you. If your moving money to live on month to month basis. It still is the best way to do it is wait the whole month and not pay any fees at all. Xoom has become the predominate move for me.

Different speeds to different banks..here pasted from their website
Deposits in minutes to PNB and Metrobank
Deposits in one hour to BDO and in a few hours
    to BPI
Fast deposits to all other banks..peso or USD

I took the time to note that Xoom is not in your country *BEFORE* I took the time to post this..in my normal..long winded way..heheh.. So hopefully someone knows a company similar that can do that quick move for you thats not the arm and leg that say Western Union would extract from you. Your going to have to check your available services to see what you will pay and wait..sorry

IF you check this website you can see what it would cost you to send 200 or 500 by all the available services in your country there

    today

Apparently today..for 500 AUD the lowest cost for that amount would be 8.25 AUD and that would be with Pinoy First.

While your pricing out maybe you can find one that is offering a freebie first time low rate and go the big transfer thus saving a bundle. Did you think about cash in your pocket..or around your thigh..your waist..your belt..
tucked here and there in your carry on?..just a thought

We can bring $20,000.00 with us as cash . Any more than that requires declaration , and who knows what headaches will be associated with that , But we still need another $30,000.00 , don't want anything confiscated from overzealous security at Ninoy , so just trying to find best way to transfer the money , so that it is cleared funds in no longer than 7 or 8 business days .

Id be reluctant myself to hand carry that amount. A fast call to your present bank inquiring about costs of wire transfers will probably cure you of trying that one. Never liked the numbers I got from banks..always too dang high.. I need to add here that I dug a bit deeper into that website Sendmoneyasia ?? .. thier last time they undated their rates for comparison was May..basically leaving you to do the research yourself..but maybe use the top six they suggest or so to get an idea of what you might be in for fees. Good Luck

Tony, not to sure about Aussie rules (no football pun intended), but for the U.S. it was easy to do a wire transfer from my Wells Fargo bank to BDO Dumaguete if the amount was $9,999 or less than $10,000. I can introduce you to the BDO bank manager here, if you are interested in setting up an account here at BDO.
Baltoed made an astute point. Now that you have made it known you might be carrying a large amount of cash, you should not publish what day you are arriving or where you will be staying, and get that cash into a bank ASAP. Good luck and have a safe journey and will catch up with you soon.

Definitely want to organise that Pat , don't want to carry any thing other than daily pesos , had a bank account there many years ago
Allied bank in Tanjay , unfortunately the wifes family could not see the benefit of leaving p100 ($2:50) in the account , hence it was closed because of it's stature being empty , Its more fun in the Philippines ! I need to get $50,000.00 aud there .

Have you looked into Forex at all Tony?

    www.ozforex.com.au/

I use to use Xoom to send but I cannot remember what happened or why I stopped and went back to WU?

The LAdy at Australia Post asked me last week how I was going to send money there monthly and suggested I look into using a Cash Passport. Apparently it is not intended to be used the way she suggested to me, but I get two Cards, send one to my Wife and I keep the other, when I put the money in there are no International ATM Transaction Fees... I am still to look into it but it sounded like a good idea as long as you *ahem* use it as its intended purpose instead of using it as convenience as she put it to me

I' not sure if it is what you are after but it did sound like a good idea the way she put it to me...

Zoom and BDO with US dollars

Xoom can be fast... I can set up the transaction from home and it will be in my BDO dollar account faster than I get to the BDO Bank here most of the time. They also send emails so you know when the transfer is done. Most small transferrs, up to their $2,900 dollar amount take less than a 5 minutes into the BDO bank account. However Zoom does have limits on the amounts, unless you give them a lot of information which I refuse to do. The limit is a running 30 day period, not an end of the month date period of time. If you chose to work with Zoom call them and get it all figured out before you sign up. I can make transfers from the Philippines by computer coming out of my US bank right into my dollar account here. The Zoom conversation rate is another source of income for them... I do not use it.
BDO has been good for me here. They have a senior line, if you quality, and you just walk to the front of the line, and give the cashier your book... she will take you transaction at finish of the transaction she is working on while you site in a chair at the counter and read the Newspaper, once I was even offered coffer or tea. (interestingly the Cebu branch I visited did not offer this service only at BDO - R Mall branch it seems) .The BDO at the Mall is as modern as any bank I have been in here. One bank (two years ago) use to post everything on the computer, then do it all by hand. The lines were tremendously long.
